Classic Hifi Care

Hi all,
I just happened across this Admiral, and its
very hip design.
Never seen one, but this one sounds super.

That is cool... nice looking unit, too.

Nice amp but odd how Admiral uses the Euro nomenclature of EL-84 for 2 output tubes and the JEDEC name 6BQ5 for the other pair. Wonder if they sourced or spec-ed them differently too? No obvious reason why they would as their all just 2 sides of a push-pull pair. I prefer to use the US name as the 1st 1 or 2 digits do actually tell you something about the tube.

Did anybody get a good look at the changer? He closed the door before I could look at it really well. That's a nice looking console.

I wonder if that was an Admiral built changer? The leveling arm looks VM, the tone arm head looks a little like Garrard, and, the controls look similar to the Zenith's of that era with the Cobra tone arm. Nice looking unit, and, definitely a TOTL model.

I remember Ken saying Admiral built their own changers. I just never seen one like it before. I believe that is the same amp as the one my uncle had. His was a 1963 model.

That's right, Ken just recently posted the lineage of changers. Thank you Ken! I need to copy and past that somewhere in my computer where I can't find it when I want it.

The record changer is an Admiral RC607 series,
per the photofact.

I slowed down the playback, and you can just
see the classic Admiral controls on L/R sides of the base.

It does look similar to a V-M, but the mech seems
simpler underneath.

That was exactly my response. At first I thought it was a single-ended amp but then I saw "EL84" and thought wait... that's a 6BQ5. Two of them. Maye that's how they keep the L and R channels of the amp labeled....

The plastic bezel surrounding the control levers is the same as the earlier Admiral RC600. The later changers were 4 speeds, which accounts for the left lever sitting in a different position.

Those swivel speakers are cool!
