Classic Hifi Care

So this looks like one of the GE consoles with the record vacuum (silver slot at the front).
I always thought that was an intriguing feature. Anyone know how well they work?
Is this a tube model? I kind of think it may be.

I'm pretty sure the changer is made by VM so it should be decent. I know they used those changers on tube model consoles but the amplifier and tuner section on that one doesn't look like one that would be powered with tubes. Maybe you can message them to see if it is a tube model.

It is a tube model. I have those guts I got from an ugly console. It has a transformer power supply and 7189 SE output. The changer is great, the record cleaning doodad is a gimic.

Thanks, wonder how it could clean records anyhow, the slot looks narrower than an 33 rpm LP, so maybe it's for 45s?

Trans PS and SE 7189... sounds a lot like the guts from the tiny GE console I found on the street: xfrm PS, SE 6AQ5.
How small/large are the xfrms on yours Greg? ...mine are quite small (pic).
4 tubes mounted on a pcb and the multi-cap mounted off to the side.

The price isn't bad and it's the EA style I like, but don't know where I'd put it!

The models with vacuum had a hose running up the tonearm to suck the dust off the records as they played. The slot in the front of the cabinet marked "record saver" is supposed to help you put the records back in the sleeves without touching the grooves.

That's interesting... seeing they didn't show up on later models guess it was a non-starter, or "cost too much".

Greg do you have a pic of your amp? it'd be interesting to compare it.
Mine came out of this diminutive console with a really cheaply made cabinet.

It has a VM changer!

The transformer on the one I dug out of the ugly console has the transformer on the end of the chassis, with a 5Y3 rectifier. The power transformer is larger than that one, but the output transformers look about the same size. All my stuff is in storage. Maybe someday I'll have access to it.

The OPTs in the photo aren't exactly hernia-inducing, are they? And the parts count isn't head-spinning, although a bunch of the passive devices are in what I call PECs, which is what I think Heath called them.

Greg's description of his GE amp sounds more like the one I just finished for the antique guy. It was pictured in my post about that GE if anyone cares to take a look. It's under "Other Consoles".

Here's a GE that's probably the same internally. It's priced at $50 but says will consider all offers so it could be bought for less.

That's a good looking GE. I wonder if it has the same guts as the GE I just finished?
