So frustrating--just typed out a post and lost it. Wish the site saved drafts. Trying again.

Here's Chris (79) and his Wurlitzer 1100 (78 or so).
The Wurlitzer came home behind the '61 Chevy. In those days I did not know anybody with a pickup truck. I went to Sears (in those days everything came from Sears or Penney's) and bought a bumper hitch bar. Strapped that to the Chevy's bumper and bolted the one-wheel trailer (Sears Allstate) brackets onto it.

My box lacks the rotating tubes that surrounded the vertical fluorescent tubes to give a spiral effect, but then I only paid $25 (1965 dollars) so I am not complaining

The Wurlitzer amp uses P-P 6V6s and has the Zenith Radionic mod/demod pickup system. It is operating on original caps still. I'm guessing (hoping) that because these were in commercial service, they had spec' d high-quality caps.

Nice. My oldest brother wanted one of those but wound up buying a newer one that plays CDs.

Nice juke box, Chris! I wanted one, but never found the right one.

My collecting style has always been to wait for whatever falls into my lap, as this did many years ago. $25 in 1965 is worth $265 today, so it was a bargain even then.

The 1100 was designed to play 78s but mine was a conversion to play 45s. There are 10" aluminum discs that hold the 7" 45s. These machines only play one side of the record.

Nice box, Chris. I am jealous. I almost bought one once, I can't remember the brand, but its nickname was "Trash Can", but looked kind of like "R2D2" and played 78's.

When I was a kid, there was a tiny amusement park adjacent to our State Park, called Tony's Park. It had a little train, boats that made a small circle in a water tank, a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, and a "casino"--a building with some pinball machines, a mechanical fortune teller (Madame something), a claw machine, and one of those Seeburgs.

Thanks, Chris, that is just like the one I almost bought. And duh, I should have remember that as I have a Seeburg 1000 back ground music machine.
