Got this Panasonic Rs-735US Sure it's a typical consumer deck of 1970, but whoever owned it before me kept the original dust cover that been on it since the Nixon administration so it survived pretty well over the years, just needed some Deoxit! And it seems to record pretty well though the mic. I made a couple videos testing both the left and right channel for recording and it seemed to do well. Not bad for only 27 bucks!

I would like to also test the input jacks for recording, but I don't have a working Y connector to hook to my phone at the moment.

Nice buy! The Japanese were building some very nice things in that era.

I know a place where they are selling pre-recorded Reel to Reel albums hopefully in the 7ips speed for sale, I will try to pick up a couple and try that out.

I have a few commercial R to R tapes and the fidelity can be quite stunning. Make sure you clean the heads and, if you can, demagnetize them. And keep the tapes away from magnets (speakers, various other electronic devices, dabinet latches, etc.).
