I just signed up. Pleased as can be that this site exists!

I'm an old audio nerd. Over the years I've bought and sold (and gave away) a bunch of stuff, always looking for the next best thing. Whatever piqued my interest.

Currently I have a cobbled together 5.1 surround system and a 2.0 critical listening system that I'm about to sell off because the money I could get for it far outweighs the use I get out of it. The 2.0 is a Pioneer SX-1250 and a pair of Vandersteen Model 2Ce Signature (series i) speakers.

For a long while I've wanted to get into tube amps. No particular reason. I've heard much about them and my curiosity is an itch I can't help but scratch. The price tags on new tube amps is crazy, but then I found out about harvesting tube amps from old console units and repairing & modifying them. That plays well into my desire to learn about electronic repair on a component level.

So I found an old Motorola SK14CW (separates) that need some work and picked them up. I'm about to pull the electronics to send off to my amp tech so he can ensure that the amp is good and modify the turntable input to accept modern line-level signal so I can plug some modern audio sources into them. They're going in my living room to see if I like them.

I also just found a 1962 Magnavox Normandy Provincial in near mint cosmetic condition for $50 available nearby. I figured out what that model was thanks to the files you have available for download. I really appreciated that!

The Magnavox is my next victim. It'll go in the room that the Pioneer and the Vandersteens are coming out of. Again, I aim to modify it to accept modern sources. Since it's in the same room as my desk I figure it'll be a nice unit to stream to whilst I'm working from home.

This forum is about the PRESERVATION of console stereos, not butchering them for the components. You have the right, of course, to do what you please with your possessions. Just don't be too shocked when you get comments that are not terribly supportive of your intentions. I have a Pioneer SX-1050 that has a dead channel. I really haven't had experience with working with solid state equipment. My intention is to put on my "big boy" panties and dig into that one of these days. It seems I can't get caught up fixing things I already fixed once, so that project remains on hold. If you have experience in repairing something like that, perhaps you could share your knowledge with the forum. We hope you enjoy the forum.

WE have a wide range of experience & equipment here.My LR rig is Denon & Tascam & Magnum Dynalab & Harman Kardon but not 15 feet away sits a 1924 Crosley, all two tubes of it that will pull in WSM from 700 miles away. My oldest Magnavox is a horn-style speaker from the mid-20s and the newest are from 1956. A fellow who sometimes shows up here has some high-end restored '30s radios with aux. inputs added that just sound remarkably good--a lesson in how source material matters.

My collection grew from a rule that no orphan gets turned away. They are not always pretty but they are fun.

I'll be surprised if the OP comes back to the forum. We don't talk about "console rape" on this forum. I made that point very clear. I don't understand why someone would post on a forum like this one about taking a nice console apart to make something he will never use. If the OP would like to talk about something else, he will be welcome.
