Equipment failure day....

Post: # 29935Post electra225 »

I'd been better off to stay in bed this morning. First, my favorite VTVM wouldn't work. I started it up before I went in for breakfast to let it warm up. I came out after breakfast and found it dead as a wedge. I had plugged it into a power strip, but forgot to turn the power strip on. Next, I started up the TV Analyzer so I could make some adjustments to the TV in my ST. It wouldn't work, either. I looked at its "picture tube" and found zero to little vertical deflection. Tested the vertical multivibrator/vertical output tube, a 13GF7A, and found it dead as a two-dollar mule. The only thing that worked on it was the filament. It wouldn't move the needle on the tube tester at all. Of course, I don't have one. Then, I started up the RCA TV I redid a couple of years ago. Found it had developed an insufficient vertical height issue while it sat, unused, on top of my tool box. The search is on for the schematic. It will need to go back onto the bench and then troubleshoot what ails it. Just about the time I think I'm making progress, something, or multiple somethings comes along to give me more projects..... ;)

It's not a tragedy. I am trying to tie up loose ends so I can get on my big Pioneer receiver project that I have been putting off for almost a year. I have the TV in the ST "this close" and am trying to get it finally sorted, down to little details. The vertical linearity is still off, but not by much. I can use the graphics on the Dean Martin roast DVD's to set up the TV if I can't get the Analyzer fixed in time. I still have the new back to make for the ST cabinet and finish the record changer yet.....
