General Electric RD600 Record Changers Assist

Post: # 105Post Hi-Fi-Mogul »

Hello everyone,
I've taken a liking to the little late 1960's plastic case
solid state, volume only, 2 x 6 inch speaker
record players.
They are usually GE with its in-house changer,
or a BSR changer labelled "Playmate" brand.

Currently, I have cleaned up a GE V631 player and it
sounds very good.
The intermittent problem is that when used in auto
function, the tonearm will not always move over the
record,lower and start playing.
When it does not function correctly, it will move
away from the platter during record drop, but
then it will only return to its rest post.

I have scoured the diagrams and read the cycle
description and observed the auto cycle.
I've cleaned it well, and all parts are there.

I can't see what is different when the tonearm
moves correctly to play or when it just
returns to its rest post.

Any ideas appreciated.
The service file is too large to post, but I
will email it, if someone can help.

BSR changers are usually very easy to service... does this one use the sensing arms to tell it the record size?. or do you have to set it the record size manually?

Hi Elton,
The GE RD610 I'm stumped about has the manual record size
selector on the record support arm spindle.

Yes, the BSR changers are a breeze to get
running. Many times the original idler
wheel is just fine, a bonus.
