Late 50's mono and poor man's 3 channel

I like that the mono unit gave a choice of playback compensations--78, flat, RIAA. Odd that they didn't give a choice of "Col" or Columbia--Columbia used a compensation curve that makes them sound lousy on modern, RIAA-only devices.

Somewhere I read that ceramic cartridges had a response characteristic that made them play RIAA back without a need for electronic compensation.

The mono unit is definitely higher end, the cabinet gives it away.

I don't like to power them up on the original electrolytics. While going through the mono amp a bad audio transformer was discovered. A donor replacement 6L6GC transformer from a Bogen DB-15 mono block is going in the little symphonic amp. A member here Who likes Motorola's is helping me with the transplant

Wow, that's a substantial amp. I had always thought of Symphonic as a cheap, low-end brand.

Did Symphonic actually build that amp, or did they farm it out to somebody else? I agree with Chris. I always thought Symphonic was a low-end brand. Nothing low-end about the looks of that amp.
