These old boys don't mess around! There is one named Officer Byrd that is the king of the car chase. One of the ASP officers recently did a PIT maneuver on a Corvette at 176 mph. The cop was driving a Chevy Tahoe. Hard to imagine that a Tahoe can outrun a Corvette enough to send it into the ditch. I'm told that some of the ASP Tahoes have the 7.0 Liter Corvette V-8 and are lowered so they can be used in pursuit work. Why do we need domestic vehicles that will run that fast?

This happened a little over a year ago and it was probably about 6 miles from my house. They said he was traveling at 120 but I thought I had read somewhere else that he was going faster than that.

If you watch the police chase videos, it's wonder more people aren't more seriously hurt than they are. I've seen drivers running from the cops get a PIT maneuver on their car, roll end over end and side over side several times, then escape thru the sunroof when the car stops, then they run from the cops. And you have to give some of these people credit. Most of them are pretty good drivers, being able to run over 100 mph in city traffic, drive on the wrong side of the road, run red lights, but they don't hit anybody. I'm not sure I could do that.

Cops should get a handle on street racing. I'm sorry to hear about the elderly couple who were involved in the video you linked.

And, as a side gripe, the male reporter in that video was wearing scuffed brown shoes with a suit. Since when do we wear brown shoes with a blue suit? My grandpa would have "thumped my noggin" if I even thought about doing that....

Trooper Byrd is well known in Arkansas for being able to catch the bad guys.

That guy is amazing! He drags people out of their wrecked car, then "tunes them up" before he cuffs and stuffs them. Last I knew, he had a Charger with a Scat Pack that had outrun him and so he was on the lookout for the car. I wonder how many Chargers he has wrecked chasing bad guys?

I like the ones driving a little car like a Ford Focus or a Chevy Spark who think it might be a good idea to try and outrun a cop driving a pursuit Tahoe or a Charger with a 392 hemi in it. The best PIT maneuver is done from the left rear corner. The bad guy's car goes into the center retainer, spins across the road scattering parts as it goes, then hits the ditch and rolls two or three times. Most police departments either suspend or limit chasing cars thru town. Not in Arkansas! They chase them out of town, then PIT them. The Tahoe makes a better PIT than does the Charger due to their greater weight. The Charger is faster. The bumpers they put on the front of their pursuit vehicles are made for PIT maneuvers. The secret is to not let the pursued vehicle drag you into the ditch with their car. That's the tough part.....
