Classic Hifi Care

I have a Fluke meter that I bought from the MAC tool vendor back when I was wrenching, probably 35 years ago. It is kaput. Dead as a mackerel. The fuses test good. It runs on a 9-volt battery. A known good battery doesn't help. I wonder if it is worth fixing or if I should just pitch it. I tossed one of my Fluke meters because it aggravated me one day, but it worked. Does anybody know of a source that repairs Fluke meters that they would recommend?

Um, picture? Model number?

I would never just toss a FLUKE until I exhausted the basics....

9 volt battery snaps have true continuity to the wires leading into the circuit board?

Rotary switch contacts cleaned and lubricated?

Solder joints inspected on the fuse holders and switch terminals where they pass thru the board?

Ribbon or conductive "rubber" strip to the LCD carefully inspected to ensure continuity to the board?

All I know is I have juice to the function switch. I have not checked anything else that you suggest. I'll try to get a picture and post it if that will help. Thanks, Doc!....

You know Greg, that "discoloration" above the "30" on the bottom of the dial isn't a real good sign...

That appears to be damage inside the layers of LCD screen. There may be some "eaten" away connection below that where the LCD is linked to the circuit board.

Did a battery puke or out-gas in this meter once upon a time?

Or did something spill on this meter and sneak into that corner the screen?

It worked before we moved. I removed the battery, since I had no idea when I would use it next. It was in my tool box, wrapped in the shop towel it had been in for all those years. I pulled it out of the toolbox, put in a new battery and found it kaput. That's all I know. Do you know of a source for repairs? I reckon Fluke must still be in business. Mr. Google?

Edit....Mr. Google says that there is a Fluke Calibration Center semi-locally, in Phoenix. On Beautiful Lane, no less. I'll reach out to see if it's worth repairing or if a new or rebuilt meter might be a better bet....

If you find an especially good deal on new or rebuilt, post it. I could use a digital meter in the collection

Being brutally honest....

You can do better than that one.

I bought a genuine Fluke off of eBay back in 2018. Sold as not working.

Replaced the small volt/milliamp fuse inside, worked great. Cleaned it up, looks brand new even though it is circa 2005. I think I paid around $70 dollars for a meter that retailed new for over $300.

I bought one of these for $49.00 and gifted it to a former coworker. Obviously the $$ has gone up with tariffs, but still a GOOD, yet Cheap meter. No current capabilities, though.
