1971 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Post: # 23794Post electra225 »

This is the same color as Mrs. Heeton's car was, the one that I used to service back in the day. Her car had the cloth interior the same color as the top. The '71 Cadillac hubcaps were simple, yet elegant. I think this is the first year that Cadillac used the regular GM wheels like Olds and Buick, instead of the reversed center wheels they used for eons. This car and the '62's are my favorite Cadillacs. The one I'm looking at is my favorite for the moment, at least.

I bought a new Buick Electra Limited coupe in 1971. I don't know how much more a Cadillac would have been, but I kinda regret not buying a Cadillac, particularly after I had some experience with Mrs. Heeton's car. I really like the way Cadillac broke up the vinyl top on those cars. Cars without vinyl tops don't look right to me.

My aunt and uncle had a light green sedan de ville. It was my favorite of the cars they owned because of the color. MAJOR GM design fault was the louvered trunk lid. They went on a trip to Niagara Falls and felt sick. Turns out there was a small exhaust leak and it was getting sucked into the car through the trunk lid.

OOPS!

Mrs. Heeton's late husband had ordered her Cadillac with cloth interior instead of leather, which gets hot setting in a parking lot in the summer. I thought the cloth interior looked cheap. I wonder if it is because most people ordered leather so cloth was just "there" and not really pushed or improved on. The cloth interior in the '71 Electra I had was lots nicer. Grandpa's brother had a '71 Olds 98 Luxury Sedan that had nicer cloth interior than the '71 Caddy. The only gripe I had with the '71 Buick I had was that the front end flopped around so much. Those little monitor lights on the front fenders looked like they were six inches wide at night, the fenders flopped around so much. The '71 Caddy didn't seen to do that. The 1971 thru 1976 "C" bodies were arguably the nicest looking since the '62 thru '64 models, but build quality was nothing close to the older ones.

Cloth/leather was standard. Leather was extra cost on order. Closed cars did not have leather, especially in the rear seat. The only leather rich people sat on was their wallet!!!

Air conditioning changed that but I personally hate leather. I owned one leather car and dumped it in 6 months. I have no problem eating cows but I don't want to sit on one.

I've had two black leather interior Buicks. Leather is more durable and more forgiving, but it sure has its drawbacks, too. ;) ;)

I'll never be a leather seat fan. My ultimate dream car is a 1962 fleetwood with gray broadcloth interior, car in black or york blue...

When I bought my 91, it was listed in the local newspaper. I asked "how big is it? Is it the big, old style car?" And "what interior does it have"?

It's a base brougham with simple piped seats in gray velvet. Honestly, I've had great interest in selling it because it's kinda rare. I did add the correct, upgrade cd/cassette radio with door mounted speakers that is OUTSTANDING.
