Hi everyone,

I have enjoyed lurking this forum lately, but I thought I would sign up to get some information from you guys about a possible restoration of a Magnavox stereo. I'll do a separate post about that in another section.

Some background on my recent projects:
A while back, I brought a 1948 Olympic 78 console back to life to play records that I inherited from my parents. It required quite a bit of work, recapping, speaker replacement, turntable refurbishment and cartridge replacement along with tracking force mods.

I've also fixed up a 1959 Zenith TransOceanic 1000 that belonged to my father-in-law, which was filthy, having been used as a kitchen radio for many years!

So, I'll post some questions regarding the Maggie console on the other thread.

Nice radios! My Dad was so proud of his Transoceanic 1000. I figured my brother should have that one since I had found a good one online, and also a couple more recent models and a couple tube ones.

Do you have a model no. for the Olympic? It's always fun to examine a schematic diagram for devices like that.

What did you do for a cartridge on it, and for tracking force improvement?

Welcome, and that is a sweet looking Olympic there.

Interesting to look at the Rider's schematic online. It contains the assertion that it sues a "low-pressure" crystal cartridge and a permanent stylus good for 4,000 plays. At 3 min./side, that's about 200 hours of grinding away on shellac-bound filler. I like the way the schematic shows the AM and FM circuits separately for clarity.

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for sharing a restored horizontal radio-phonograph story.

So many different manufacturers made those and I save them wherever possible. I saved about 15 myself, but restore them only on request.
