"The Bull" is back!!!

Post: # 23042Post electra225 »

This little tidbit may be "ho hum" to you guys, but to this old hillbilly, it is a big deal. For some reason as yet unexplained, I lost the ability to receive my favorite AM radio station. KIKO, 1340 AM, "The Bull" was gone for almost three months. Broadcast out of Apache Junction, 20 miles to my north, it used to come in here strong enough to close the eye tube on console radios with just their internal antenna. For the last three months, I could only get it on the car radio when I was farther north. I couldn't get it on any radio, not even a Hallicrafters here. I was looking for another station this morning, scanning the band, when I heard Johnny Cash. Sure enough, The Bull was back. Weaker than usual, but I listened to Western Red on a GE AA5 with it's directional antenna. I don't know what the problem was, don't really care, but it is great to have The Bull back even with its 42 minutes of commercials an hour. Western Red is commercial-free for the most part. :D ;) :o

Did you inquire about why they were missing? I always report audio anomalies to my favored public broadcasting stations. A couple times I have alerted the engineer to electronic issues--audio out of phase, one channel lower in level. From time to time they have to do antenna work, and they usually warn us. I wonder if your station had antenna damage that nobody reported or noticed?

I sent them an email, I left a phone message for the general manager. No response. I even asked an advertiser. He said he could still get the station, but he was less than 5 miles from the broadcast antenna. I have no idea what the issue was. I'll enjoy Western Red as long as I can receive his broadcast. I've been listening to him online as well.

If you know where the station is located, then sometime when you are in the area you should stop by and ask, "where did you go for 3 month"? Maybe they would have an answer in person.

I don't know who takes care of KIKO's tech, but they never contacted me if something RF-wise was needed.

I'll inquire.

It would be nice to know what is going on. I never thought to ask you about it, Dennis. I couldn't get KIKO again on the car radio coming home this afternoon.

No Western Red this week. I can't even get the carrier for "The Bull". Like it doesn't exist. I leave the old SC 1121 radio on that station because it usually comes in well on that radio. Nothing but static this week....

I looked for that information and never did find it. Of course, we all know I am the worst there is using Google. Looks like they have a technical issue of some kind. Thanks, Doc......
