1949 Magnavox Embassy TV/Radio/Phono Console

Picked this beauty up earlier this week. I never thought I'd ever see one close enough to make it worth my while. However, this popped up on Marketplace about three hours from me last weekend. I don't really have the room, but couldn't resist. Not only was it close, but it is the most complete original and cleanest one I've seen in a long time. So, I took the day off to go get it. Initial inspection shows that it is pretty much original and unmolested. The only thing I noticed was the original amplifier audio output transformer was replaced. The TV tuner knob is broken, but I have 75% of the pieces. One other TV knob is incorrect. It is also missing the door pull for the record storage. Other than that, it is complete. It even has the original metal back panel That covers the tuner and TV chassis. It uses a Webster-Chicago 3 speed record changer, a CR-227A tuner chassis and a CT-246C TV chassis with a 16EP4A CRT. I don't see a model number on the amplifier, but the tube count is four 6V6 output tubes and two 5Y3 rectifier. It looks like there is a crossover network hanging on the side of the cabinet to the left of the 15 inch speaker. It also looks like a second plug connection to the speaker. So maybe there is a coaxial speaker installed? I found a couple of advertisements from 1949-1950 that mention the 15 inch speaker and two tweeters or one horn. I don't know where they would be located unless it was in front of the 15" speaker. I don't see the room for them. Any information anyone can provide on the amplifier and speaker arrangement would be most appreciated. Also, if you can point me to a source for documentation.

Great find: a cool device and in good condition.

My '56 Magnasonic has tweeters mounted concentrically in front of the woofers. My '51 lacks and HF speakers.

Great score, I am glad you finally found one close to you. Now the fun begins, the restoration. I agree with Chris, your tweeters are in front of the woofer.

If the picture tube is good and if you can get a raster, you will be well on your way to a successful repair. Those things are a blast to work on. Yours will be easier than mine was because it has a hard-wired TV chassis. Good luck....
