We are so pleased to have snagged this delicious 580. Gary, at V-M Enthusiasts was a huge help. A new needle and reconditioned idler wheel was all it took to get LPs playing. We found a sweet KLH tuner that fits perfectly in the record storage compartment, with plenty of room left for records. Next I'll pull the integrated amp for a DeOxit treatment. Can you say oxidation?

Very clean ... nice looking unit

Being a VM guy, I like your new toy. You would think, living in Michigan, I could find all the VM products I would want. Not the case! Every once in a while one pops up and if I'm not to late I might snag it. Most of the time, I miss out. eBay had a listing for a VM 580 a few weeks ago but it was only for the main console. No speakers! I hate it when people split things up. What model KLH tuner did you find? I have one I bought my mother for her birthday 50 years ago and it still works great.

I think that is what mine is. I will check the next time I go down stairs. I really like KLH stuff, always thought they sounded good.

Really like the look of your 580. Very clean lines. I'll bet it will sound great when you get it all fixed up.

What a nice cabinet and considering modern taste, a timeless style. I have just pulled the player (the exact parts changer I have as a spare) amp and tuner (2 spare tuners as well) from a customer's 852, which was Early American. Its in my shop along with two Mags from 1961, similar to that Mag Shango66 just posted. Working on such simple and basic tube circuits is my preference by far.

The console belonged to the customer's Grandmother, who is now 90 and hopefully can visit to hear after I finish and return it. The granddaughter eagerly demonstrated that radio part worked, which it did quite well. But only after I cautiously asked if a pop or hum was never heard. Then I saw the Astatic 710 cart had its one stylus bent (why the 78?) and then I flipped the cart over to LP needle and it played, as good as can be expected for just waking up. Such a basic circuit and already working, it just needs the usual TLC, cleaning and re-capping.

Thanks for posting this beauty Toodletunes, I will continue with a repair thread on this customer's, hoping to discourage another one of these V-Ms from being parted out just for its EL84 amp.
