Bell and Howell - 1956 Paul McCobb design

Post: # 21103Post Motorola minion »

An acquaintance of mine in the hobby picked this up in Florida recently.

I recall Bell and Howell was mostly into projectors, not so much for electronics beyond electronic correspondence courses. I once had a "B+H schools" O-scope and nixie-tube (early digital) multimeter.

A nice departure from an oddball imported rig in a trendy cabinet!

Does anyone know of this model?

Occasionally, they pop up for sale and if memory serves there was a discussion about one on the forum at one time but now that I'm thinking about it, it was probably Vintage. The cabinet was kind of like Motorola with Drexel. Bell and Howell used furniture designer Paul McCobb. The only ones I have seen have been in the MCM cabinet like the one you provided Dave. The add states 6 models in 5 finishes. They were high-end with lots of gadgets and one ad had photos with the back off. There was some hefty hardware back there.

Here's a couple of links showing two different models.

I wonder if one would actually SELL for almost ten grand? Bell and Howell was proud of them when they were new. They cost more than a Concert Grand.... ;)

Some of these Bell & Howell consoles were rebadged as Columbia.
