Skipping CD player

My old trusty, dependable, mega-high hour RCA/Radio Shack 300-disc CD player, model 42-7005 went on the fritz temporarily this morning. Any CD I loaded wanted to skip and repeat itself. After about ten minutes, it straightened out and is working fine now. Can something like a laser or something, be dirty and needing attention? How would I attempt that? Should I consult Mr. Google? I bought this thing at a Radio Shack store that was closing in Mesa probably 20 years ago. It is totally full of CD's and is played nearly every day. I wouldn't even hazard a guess how many hours were on this CD changer.

A non-expert response..... I have read that dirt accumulated on the laser can do that. Somebody made a disc with fuzz on it to brush the laser. A better approach might be to use a fine brush, maybe a Q-Top, something like that to clean lightly. Maybe have a vacuum nozzle nearby. Or maybe just try a vacuum nozzle alone. I know that sometimes a disc will have a bit of crud that interferes with reading. If a tiny fiber caught on the laser it might do the same thing.

I'm thinking it had to be something temporary. I've played 3 CD's already this morning and they all played fine after the initial hiccup.

Get a cd cleanup disk and run it a couple of times.
