Mittens and the blue balls....

We have a white flocked tree decorated in blue LED's and all blue balls, four sizes. The largest ones are about three inches in diameter, the smallest ones about an inch in diameter. I hang two or three of the smallest ones down low on the tree. Mittens is our female cat, a tuxedo cat, that we rescued from the workings of a Ford. She will lay on her back and bat at those little blue balls by the hour, until she gets one or more to fall to the carpet below. This year, I hung the balls so it would be harder for her to knock them off. She straightened out the hooks which stay on the tree, but the ball falls off. She doesn't bother anything else of any Christmas decorations in the house, doesn't damage anything. She just plays with those little blue balls.

Lucky you. Usually a crashed or trashed tree is a fun side show for a cat. They do the demo work then the dogs get to chew on the light strings. When I was little I had a Dachshund that LOVED to eat the tinsel from the tree. I'll leave it to your imagination what the result was. And it was no stomach upset for the dog.

We have a picture of Mittens as high in the tree as she could climb on her first Christmas when she was a baby. She tried to climb the next year, and ended up on her can, after hitting every limb on the way down. She likes to play with little balls hanging on the tree. IF we put some down low so she can play with them, she leaves the rest of the tree alone. As I type this, she is batting at the ball I booby trapped. I double hooked it. Let's see if she can get it down. She'll work at it until she gets tired or she gets it to drop.
