Tolex glue

I have two runs on the inside of the lid on the Magnavox record player I recovered that the seams are coming apart. I thought first that I might have made a double cut with my knife, causing the joints to show. I think now, after reading about the situation online, that the Tolex glue I used shrunk the white Tolex so it doesn't fit now. I got both the Tolex and the glue from AES. The glue did not have a brand name on it. I now have to replace a couple of runs on the inside of the lid. They tell me that getting the Tolex glue off is a pain. The next project I do, I'll try using Elmer's white glue on it. It won't attack the Tolex.

Would an adhesive of the type used for roof linings in cars work? The type that sprays on , 3M makes it I believe. Lining material would probably be more sensitive than Tolex.

I don't like overlapping the material, so I cut butt joints. The Tolex glue I use is water soluble, but it also tends to shrink white. I read on the Internet where white Tolex can shrink. The guys at AES don't know and don't care, so they didn't advise me to order the heavy grade of white. It is harder to work with, but the glue won't shrink it if you cut butt joints. Plus, I must have gotten some glue on my blade, which goms it up so it won't cut. I made two passes to get the material cut, and it left a ditch. My fault totally. I thought about using interior spray glue, but it's messy and you can't move the material at all when you put it on. I will put the white Tolex on the GE cabinet with Elmer's white glue.
