Magnavox New Horizon

I am happy to say that after a long, but rewarding journey,
I believe the 1958 New Horizon small console is ready.

The signal input RCA cable going from the VOL control to
the amplifier input was bad.

I found some old fashioned RCA plugs at one of our last electronics
supply stores last week.

Today, I prepared the signal and braided shield and soldered
them into/onto the new RCA plug.

With various RCA male/female adapters, I connected the
stereo Micromatic changer to the controls' input,
and the controls' output to the amp.

The sound is VERY nice, and I found that attenuating the Bass
control while maxing out the Treble control
allows for a full-range sound.

I'll post some final photos a bit later.
I have to secure all the new cables, and then that's it !

Good progress! Will this be a keeper? The Magnavox record player I redid sounds better with the treble control advanced as well.

I think I have a buyer for this one.
He has wanted another hi-fi from me.

On to the next 10 hi-fi ladies waiting in line
for restoration.

It's all complete now. I had to take out the cartridge again
and really clean the pins and wire clips so both channels
were working.

The lawyer guy backed out of buying it, due to spousal
intervention, ha ha !!! (Too many toys from me, I guess)

I'll find someone who'll really enjoy it. She sounds really good.

The substitute Micromatic S600 fits right in place of that H400,
that I could never get to function.
The stereo cart bridged with cables to make a mono input
on the control section.

Nice Job, Mr. Mogul. Is the amp PP?

I could see what looked like a 5U4 and other tubes behind but, was not sure what they were. Thanks.

I found a buyer for the New Horizon, who also has a nice
little Westinghouse console that he wants restored.

He contacted me first about the Westinghouse, and I
mentioned I had the Magnavox for sale.

He dropped by today, and was sold in a minute.

His little Westinghouse has a 1960 Collaro F-200 or similar in it;
something I did not expect.

At least that Collaro's cycling mech is the same as the later
Micromatics, so I said I'd do the service for him.

From what I have been able to tell, the F200 and the S600 Collaro changers are identical except for trim items, tone arm, over arm things like that. If they aren't identical mechanically, they are real close. ;)
