After nearly 65 years....

We are considering leaving State Farm Insurance company. In May, I got my Mini damaged in a car wash. A nozzle came off, and the high water pressure tossed it against the roof of my car, putting a dent about the size of a BB right dead in the middle of the roof. Long story short, we have been battling State Farm for three months trying to get the dent fixed. By the time the dust settles, I have been told by three body shops the dent will cost about $5000 to repair. Apparently, a dent in the roof is the worst kind to have repaired. The interior of the car needs to be removed almost totally. The air bags have to be removed. My car has special-order white interior, which all will need to be removed and bagged. The glass has to be removed including the windshield. The rear hatch comes off. All this so they can work the dent, then repaint the entire top and spoiler. State Farm sent us a check for $1300 saying that will pay for the repair. That won't get the car apart. They sent us that money hoping we would settle for that and go away. The car wash gave us a statement, admitting their equipment failed, damaging the car. State Farm says there is "no proof" the damage was done in the car wash. There was no dent going into the car wash, verified by video. I reckon I got out of the car with water squirting all over the place and put a dent in my own car. Due to this little mess, we are shopping around for car insurance. This is no way to treat a reliable customer. My wife has been with State Farm since 1959. We have never had a chargeable accident. The only claims have come as comprehensive claims, broken windshields, that kind of thing.

You and many others I know. I've never been able to justify the expense of their products. I know I can't afford to pay for their silly commercials. I used to insure with an affiliate of American Express. Then they went independent and was still a good value, then they sold out to American Family and adopted their extortionate prices. I then went to Allstate. they're priced reasonably and has offered good service so far.

I have been with Farm Bureau since I got my first vehicle back in forever ago. I have never really had a problem with them and only minimal claims. I have always found them competitive with the cheaper companies, probably because they do not advertise and do other foolish things like other companies do. Recently, in the Grand Rapids area, mother nature was very mean and there were major thunderstorms along with large damaging hail. Because of this, and I'm being told the burden is spread over all Farm Bureau Insurance throughout the country, my rates went up almost $200.00 for the vehicles and I'm guessing it will go up as well with my homeowner's insurance when I get that bill next month. One of the major problems with high insurance rates here in Michigan is we are one of the few states left that has NO-FAULT vehicle insurance. I guess it sucks to live in Michigan when it comes to vehicle insurance.

We were with a company forever... never made a claim. My dad died and the church told us our 3 foot stone was damaged. It was after my aunt was buried. It couldn't be fixed. I made a claim against our homeowners. First time in 53 years we ever made a claim. (Mom and dad bought the house in 1968 when I was "in the oven"). Having been inboth the funeral and insurance fields, I knew homeowners should cover it.

They didn't want to pay it until I pushed the fact that I knew what I was talking about.

6 months later, we had a winter storm and we lost shingles. I went to file a claim. They'd pay it BUT my premium would increase by $500 a year....

Guess what... I fired them and FAST.

I have antique car insurance on my 91 cadillac. I've been with the same company for 30 years since I bought the 57. I called 2 other companies and they won't cover the 91. They will take the 62.

Apparently, a 91 isn't considered an antique or classic to some companies anymore. When I asked my current company, they told me they wouldn't cover my 91 today and I'm "grandfathered" into a classic policy. If I were to drop it, they wouldn't insure the car again until it was maybe 40 years old...

If a company doesn't do you right, find a better one and get with them. Sometimes a rotten deal is a secret message from the insurance company that they don't want you as a customer anymore. Lose them. Others want your business.

We get discounts with State Farm. We have contacted three other companies, and they all want to change up to $400 more every six months than SF does. That kind of money will assuage my hurt feelings...... ;)

The insurance industry seems to be mostly a scam, a conspiracy against the insureds. About 10 years ago my homeowner's agent called up and said "The company is cancelling your insurance. What are you going to do about it?" My immediate thought was, "You're the agent, shouldn't you be doing something about it?" But I kept my mouth shut and took action. I fired the agent and got another one.

By the way, they were cancelling allegedly because my roof was too old. I had replaced it two years earlier.

My canned answer is GFY....

Quote honestly, if I had enough money, I'd insure myself.

Again, I was a life/health agent and I work in Medicare/medicaid IT. Insurance is the biggest racket ever devised.

I'm sick. I won't go to the doctor but 10 hypochondriacs will. My premium pays for them. If I go, I get a bill...

Want to know the worst thing... the company I work for was bought out by a F500 conglomerate. Our local office that had about 2k employees was decimated. Know where 1800 US tax payer funded Medicare/medicaid jobs went...

India and the Phillipines... and guess who I have to take orders from. Yep... the people our taxes are paying more than I make!!! And they have no skin in the race.
And this is nothing new. Been going on for over 40 years...

There is a topic on the big forum about old brand names now being worthless. All the brands are owned by foreign companies. Today, I was looking at a Conway Twitty record at the store, a new "vinyl record" for $19.95, a sum this old boy would NEVER in a million years pay for a Conway Twitty record. On the RCA Legacy label. With a big sign "Made in the Czech Republic". What is the world coming to when even records are produced off-shore. It is a re-issue of a his most famous hits with album notes dated "Radio Corporation of America, 1958"........ ;)

The problem with that is many of the selections on the album were from a time much later than 1958...

Well, I know a big reason those records won't be made on shore anytime soon...

There is/was a big RCA record stamping plant on North Shadeland Drive in Indy. I'm guessing it is no longer in existence.

want records pressed? Go to Detroit.

I think Third Man is Jack White's shop.
