Classic Hifi Care

Hello guys, Nate's visit this week was initially about delivering the experimental subwoofer. We had talked about this at work for a while and I was actually surprised when he started building it about Christmas of last year. The idea was to make a subwoofer but make a cabinet to replicate mid-century looks so it would blend into the collection. Nate could not understand what I was saying when I said biamp and apparently this is a way to wire up a speaker that has little to do with the biamp we deal with. We were not able to hook it up to the Magnavox console but we did get it running with the Klipsch speakers I have. BTW in the photos the klipsh's are really beat up but I had a local guy go through them and he refurbished the crossovers and they function like new. I asked my wife if she said she could tell the difference upstairs when the subwoofer was running... She said the doors upstairs were rattling ! Hope you like it. Hydro

Somebody does some nice woodworking! I need to know somebody like that who would take on my CG/Imperial external speaker project. The final result looks factory to me. Great job!!

This is Nate. He is an excellent toolmaker as well as a passionate builder of speakers. talented guy

I was working with a man in Missouri who was building a set of external speakers for bi-amp stereos. The man was retired and his main claim to fame was that he built cannons for the groups who re-enact war skrimishes. I had gotten the dimensions for a member of the old forum, we had it designed, I had the speakers ready, the wiring figured out. He was building the speakers out of reclaimed cherry. The were like the genuine Magnavox external speakers. He was killed in an auto accident, so, between when he died and the time the family held an auction to liquidate his belongings, all the work and plans for the speakers disappeared. Now I get to start over.

Hello Greg, You mentioned this before. Is it the cabinet that you are looking to have replicated ? or is it the sound ? I have not seen a s-43 thru s-47 speaker advertised so they are pretty thin on the ground it would seem. When I look at the console companies post war it's almost like they were furniture builders as much as sound reproducing hardware makers. It seems trivial to me what leg you chose for your console. Or even if it is cherry or walnut but this was a big deal in the advertising brochures. Hydro

Nate is definitely a very talented man. The design of your speaker cabinets remind me of the Bozak 2 and 3 hundred series speaker cabinets in MCM. Here's a link to show you what I mean.
