Hello guys, this is a speaker I have not seen before, Kind of cool but it does seem strange that it appears to be two set of speakers in one box for stereo?

That is an interesting find and I'm guessing somewhat rare. From what I have read in the brochures I have; they are either models S39 or S40. They are the only two external speakers that Magnavox offered that had two 15" woofer and two horns. Also, in the brochure Magnavox offered a build your own type of scenario. The basic box, came in different finishes, but you got to pick the type of leg you wanted to create the style of furniture you had. The S39 had the divided frequency amplifier included at 25 watts. The S40 was without amplifier. One last thing, the info was in the 1958 brochure not the 1959.
Hydro, if the speaker is close to you, you might consider picking it up, after all the price is right and it would go good with what you already have. If it was close I would be all over it.

Bill, That is a different speaker. I looked it up (in the downloads section) for companion speakers and it looks like the model S-30. But the interesting thing to me is the woofers are wired parallel so it's one speaker with "2 woofers" and parallel for the horns also. Also it a plug in for the amp 179 which was the amp they used in what model? idk

Hello Bill, Now thoroughly confused. The S-39 is similar but has a wood separator bar across it. It also has a connector with a relay in it what is this for ?

Hydro. I'm guessing, and it is a guess, the speakers you posted and the ones I posted are the same just different cabinets, it might have been a year thing. Looking thru the brochures, and depending on the years, these speakers were either companion speakers to make a unit stereo, probably the ones that had amps built in, or auxiliary extension speakers. I will do more reach when I get on the computer and not on my iPad. Are you considering a purchase?

Seattle is a long way from Sacramento! Odd internal speaker set up.

Not really odd, just Maggie's way to use existing stock at a high power level.
A pair of those cabs (especially bi-amped) would really rock the joint!
Altec did that type of multiple-drivers design a lot in commercial applications.

Whoops, I was thinking Hydro lived in California. Senior moment, I guess.

I believe Altec also used dual woofers in some of their large home model speakers.
Though my Valencia 846a pair had a single 15".

Their theater line had up to 6 15's in a single enclosure.
Large outdoor venues could have as many as 8 2" drivers on a single horn.
They knew loud...
