$30 Regency Symphony, Free Zenith, Free BIG Maggie
Some good buys and freebies in Tejas.
That 1960's Zenith is in great condition, as is the Regency.
What is the last Maggie listing ?
It looks original, but I've never seen this console.

Re: $30 Regency Symphony, Free Zenith, Free BIG Maggie
The third one, the bottom listing is NOT a Magnavox. At first glance, I might guess Curtis-Mathes. Notice the layout of the tuner and changer. Plus, the cabinet is too long for any tube Magnavox. It does have a Collaro changer. The more I look, the more I'm sure I don't recognize the brand. I don't think it's a CM. The cabinet is nice and the electronics appear stout enough to make it an interesting find. I'd say the changer is older than a Conquest. I wonder if the changer is not original.

Wow, three big bargains!! The Regency would have a ten and a twenty out of mu pocket in an instant; The Zenith and the mystery device would be in the back of the truck and I'd be trying to figure out where to put them. Good thing I'm hundreds of miles away. C-M usually splashed their name all over, so it's probably not theirs. But does have a separate power amp, always an interesting sign.

The last one is definitely something of quality, but what brand????? I was thinking CM too, but like Chris said they are proud of their name so it would be there, as would Fisher and Pilot. The amp looks like it has a 5U4 for the rectifier but the PT does not look overly large but that might be just the way the photo shows it. How close are you to any of them, Mr. Mogul? Can you say road trip!

Bill,
They are all 300+ miles away. And I don't think any would fit
into my old Park Avenue's trunk !
It's fun to fantasize though !

Park Avenue, you would be surprised what will fit in a Part Avenue trunk. If I may ask, what year Part Avenue do you have? I have had two, and I wish I still had them. One was a 1989 and the other was a 2000.

Re: $30 Regency Symphony, Free Zenith, Free BIG Maggie
I'm laughing. The only time I've driven a Corvette was in college, where I traded my Chevy convertible for a '64 Vette convertible for a weekend (solid-lifter 327 version). My buddy wanted to bring his electric organ back to school from Toledo, and he had carried it to gigs in his dad's '61 Chevy convertible trunk in high school. The '61 Chevy has a vast trunk. You could live in it.Hi-Fi-Mogul wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 1:48 pm They are all 300+ miles away. And I don't think any would fit

I was terrified that I'd do something to the Vette so I drove like an old man over the weekend. At the time I had been driving automatic transmissions so the stiff clutch pedal gave my left leg a workout.

Bill, it's a 2001 with the good V-6 engine. Much of the trim outside would not
stay on with epoxy, so I just let the trim go.
But, I keep it serviced, and it only has about 145K miles on it.
I bought it used years back, after a nice lady t-boned my old but very comfortable
Lexus 400.
Chris, that's a great story.
Now my first teen car was a 1966 black on black Buick Deuce and a Quarter.
You could fit a compact car in that trunk !
The best part was the neon green "Cruise" dashboard instrument light.
I only had it a short while, as the valves went south, and then another
oil embargo hit.

Hang on to it, Mr. Mogul, those 3800 Buick V6 engines go forever. I know someone who has a 2002 Buick Regal with 356,000 miles on it and neither the engine nor the transmission have been touched.

3M makes a trim adhesive that works very well.
Can't beat a Buick with 3800, if we were to go back to driving a car I'd get one.
The trannies don't generally seem to be as tough as the engine though.

That Magnavox would also be stuffed into my sedan as well. $30 is great especially if its complete. As a AM-SW, those post-war, pre-FM receivers are awesome performers.
That Zenith is a 1969-71, mid-level 20 watt SS and pretty tame. I always liked those back lighted knobs, way more interesting than Mag and RCA's offerings at the time.
The last one sure is a mystery, we don't see any C-M around here, nobody wanted to pay that much or display such a pretentious large console.

The third link is definitely a Curtis Mathes.

Do you have any idea of a model number, Ken? The thing that threw me off was that there is no brand name that I could see. The layout looked like C-M, but it didn't say Curtis-Mathes by the eye tube as is typical.

No, but I see the same receiver in a couple of consoles at https://www.curtis-mathes.com/apps/blog/

Thanks Ken, and thanks for the CM link. As I scrolled through the link I found two with the same dial. The first was a kind of blonde colonial model and no CM name on the dial. The second one was a more modern cabinet but again to name on the dial. And the one that you featured with everything in a drawer had no name either. All had the Collaro changer.

That was a very interesting CM site. I recall the commercial in late 70s slogan "most expensive TV and well worth it" Thanks!
Re: $30 Regency Symphony, Free Zenith, Free BIG Maggie
Would that be a transplanted receiver in the last one? I can't imagine a manufacturer using so many exposed fasteners as that unit has on it's inner deck.

Ken, would the Collaro changer be correct for that model? The changer looks "older" to me than what would be appropriate in that console.

That tonearm was normal for the standard Collaro Conquest. The Conquest changers built for Magnavox had custom Magnavox style tonearms.electra225 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 9:04 pm Ken, would the Collaro changer be correct for that model? Thanks, Ken, you always have unique links that I appreciate. The Collaro Conquest changer pictured is just like the one I have in my Columbia, built by Magnavox, little console. It's single ended 6BQ5, PT powered amp, with six speakers, sounds pretty good for what it is. The best part, it was free.
