Wasn't aware Magnavox made SS consoles other than Astro's in the 60's. Maybe this is later than 68. Is this what the Imperial morphed into after the Astro-Sonic line came about? This is probably the 2nd vertical console I've come across for sale. I think the other was part of the "Spirit of 76" collection. Maybe this wouldn't be considered a console. I'm guessing this would have been considerably more expensive than any TV-less Astro. At least the bottom speaker section is separate for easy moving.

Not a lot of these vertical jobs around, I've seen only a couple. Impressive looking 8 xstr amp but smallish trannies and lousy stereo separation obviously.

These were considered TOTL, and by the amp it was an Imperial that went up instead of out. Some even had TV's. I believe they came about in the very late 60's and continued into the 70's with more plastic and less wood in the cabinets.

Who made that tape deck?
And look at those output transistors--Magnavox carried over their fondness for parallel push-pull into the transistor age.

That is the 100 or 150 rated amp...yea the separation would suck ... external speakers are needed Panasonic was the main supplier of the reel 2 reel decks... if it was near me I would pay 100 bucks for it...

Thanks for the education guys. If I was in need of another hutch, and project, it would be a worthy consideration. It's an hour south of me. The price is attractive enough, even if the prospect of moving it would not be.

If space were a problem, width wise, these units would are great and with the top-of-the-line guts they should sound great even though there is not much separation. For me, I'm not all that interested in separation as most of my listening is while I'm doing something around the house or shop. I do want big powerful thunderous sound and this unit should easily produce that.

Looks like there's storage or book space behind the upper side glass doors. High quality piece and a good unit for the space challenged !
