Cartridges in kiddie players

The cartridge in my little Truetone kiddie player is kaput. I've read in the past (when I wasn't interested) about what hoops people jump through to find a replacement. I've read about the Pfanstiehl 911-3, but I don't know anything about it, nor do I see it on Gary's website. Also the P51, which is only .5 volt output. Is the Vaco in my player a 1-volt or a 3-volt crystal pickup? The P228 stereo cartridge, bridged for mono, is only capable of .55 volts then you add a kit of some kind to increase output. The Vaco in there now is a flip cartridge. I could use a 1/2" mount cartridge, then use double-sided tape to hold it in the tone arm. I'm new to this, so go easy on me and talk REAL slow so I can absorb it all. I should have paid more attention when I had the chance.... ;)

Gary S. sold me a NOS stereo cart that I bridged--can't recall what he offered me; can look it up next week if you can wait (time pressed right now). It has enough oomph to drive the little RCA to reasonable volumes.

If your crystal cartridge is 1 volt then the P228 is the one you want, unless Gary has other thoughts, it puts out 0.8 volts and with a needle replacement it will hit 1 volt. Gary might have other suggestions if you email him and ask.

I've sent Gary and email with a picture of what I've got now. I hope the 228 will work.

Gary does list a 3-volt cartridge, Astatic 434, but you'd have to find a way to mount it.

Ken, do you believe my cartridge is a 3-volt? Double-sided tape would hold the cartridge you linked in place.

Looking at the schematic you posted in the other thread, I'd say yes. The cartridge feeds the grid of the 50C5 output tube.

Gary said he might have a plan, he wanted more information. Let's keep a good thought. ;) ;)
