Charles, that must be an amazing console to have.

I'm not Charles, but I can attest it sounds fantastic. It is probably the best sounding console I have every heard. And, yes, I have one, but it is in the Early American cabinet and mine does not have the tape deck. Mine was the last day of an estate sale score. The estate sale company had it playing, everything worked, and I only paid twenty bucks for it. Did I need it, NO! It's been sitting in the garage ever since. My initial thought was to give it to an acquaintance who collects Zenith. When I called him and said I had it he was very excited until he saw it. Then said he had no place for it in his tiny house with three little girls running around. I told him I would keep it for him and that he could have it anytime. I have no room for it on the main level of the house and trying to carry a six foot 200 pound stereo down a flight of basement stairs does not sound fun. Remember, I'm old!

I have a thing for these fully loaded consoles... to me they were the pinnacle of the era ...all the known sound reproducers of the day built into one.. but sadly I have no room either ... besides, 800 bucks is out of my range.... way out...

I know the one I found is not the holy grail of Zeniths as far as cabinets goes, but then for twenty bucks and it was working...

That "holy grail" stuff is all horse feathers as far as I'm concerned. If you have it, if you like it, then it must be the "holy grail" to you. That's all that matters. I know you have fun with it.

Orphans need love, too. You do an amazing job rehabbing them. You can rightly be proud of them.

Wow! It actually sold for $1300 instead of the $800! Yes, it indeed sounds wonderful! It really is a toss up between it and my Concert Grand.

I have yet to hear a Concert Grand, but someday, maybe, I will have that pleasure.

Nice Zenith! Dig that cabinet design! I'd have to say that the best console I've ever heard was a correctly restored 1962 Fisher President that had a 400CX tube preamp, SA-300B EL-34 tube amp, and FM-200B tube tuner with Miracord TT and Ampex R to R. Freakin' amazing, and at $2400 new it should be..

If you make it to AZ this winter, that can be arranged.

I envy some of those folks who have a collection of high-end electronics, and I admire their persistence and drive to get the really good stuff and preserve it. But as Bill said, my collection is orphans. Things I found at curbside or in the junk shop, or inherited from family, or that friends who knew of my interest donated. They are fun too, and sometimes require more skill and persistence to restore.

With a couple possible exceptions, everything in my collection is "undesirable" or "junk". And orphans. Lots of family heirlooms, they just seem to follow me home. I also admire folks who can find the good stuff and hold on to it. But I can guarantee you they haven't had any more fun with '"the good stuff" than I have with my old junk.
