Time for dinner--I watched the first half so far. Those Jam Handy films were made in Detroit.

Many of the sets were made in Indiana, too.

I was hoping you'd catch that, Rex. Probably the Bloomington plant.

Don't forget the Marion CRT plant as well.

I had forgotten about the Marion CRT plant. Did they make the entire CRT there? And did they make color ones? I know there was a color CRT plant in Cincinnatti that made the outside glass shell only.

They built the gun assemblies and finished the envelopes and assembled the guns to them and brought them to final assembly. My mother worked there on color gun assemblies. It was in operation from the early forties when Farnsworth sold it to RCA to 1993, when RCA moved all CRT production offshore.

The hideaway did. That was the first time I had seen the timer tuner, though.

Love these old promo films. The service and chassis features info was interesting.
RCA nomenclature and model order can be very confusing at times.
I'm also perplexed by some models shown. First, I'm not sure if these in the film were chassis CTC-9 or CTC-10, sometimes there was carry-over. The CTC-9 "Patterson" with it's stick-out crt is still shown in my '61 brochure. I think CTC-10 wasn't introduced until Fall 1960, and CTC-11 was introduced at the tail end of year 1961 so my '61 (?) "Wakely" isn't shown in my '61 brochure and is sometime referred to as a 1962 model. Also in the film the "Hillsborough" model and the model with built-in timer/remote are not shown in the ETF listing for 1960 RCA models or in my '61 brochure. I"m pretty sure they weren't CTC-11 either, the first year for Nuvistors in the tuner and heavily promoted that year.
Maybe Dave can clear all this up?
