ARF

I just tried to get on ARF and had to login. It wouldn't let me because the username was "inactive." Yeah, I have not logged in for a long time. It said to contact an administrator. But if I can't log in, how to do that? So I tried to re-register but then it told me that my username was already in use. Aaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anybody is checkin' in over there, could you send a note to an administrator and find out how I get reinstated?

I go on ARF almost every day, just so I won't get my membership suspended. They have a rule now that members need to include their location in their signature. Plus, if you haven't logged on in a certain amount of time, it is suspended. I'll send you a PM to make sure I have your ARF username correct. I'll contact Alan and see if we can get you reinstated. Our forum tells ME that if I experience a certain event, I need to contact the administrator. I AM the administrator. Why would I want to contact me?

I believe the simplest way is simply send an e-mail to the administrator:

alanATantiqueradios.com

substitute the @ for the "AT" :D

I was on ARF yesterday. Now my account is inactive. We are in the same boat, Chris....... ;)

My address is updated. I haven't posted in quite awhile.

I had my location on ARF. Apparently, there has been a change in how that was listed, and I was unaware of that. I don't post very often, and only go on to keep my account active. By what I read, several members were unaware of the change, so I'm not the only one. I'm guessing the issue Chris is having is the same one.

I'm on there almost every day. No problem signing on today.
Their new-ish location policy has locked subscribers out unless address has been updated, which I did about 6? months ago.

It's the only place I've had any luck selling tubes or audio gear other than eBay, which I won't deal with any more.
I sold a mint Scott 382b for only $125 on ARF that no one else from any other site even bothered to inquire about,
a reasonable price for both parties. ARF is very effective for selling as long as stuff is priced fairly.

I like ARF as it's collegial for the most part and with a deep knowledge and experience base advice on tech issues is of a very high level as well.

I read a post from Alan that said he was getting emails faster than he could respond to them. Seems to me like this is a mess of his own making. He has trimmed the membership rolls from 46,000 down to around 2,000. I used to really like ARF. I don't post much anymore.

Just before reading this, I sent him an email to add to his misery.

I don't get why he/they are so persnickety about location, it can't be just a state, for those who might prefer some degree of anonymity (not me)... there are crazies out there that might be able to track someone down in a small town over some beef or vendetta.

I asked Alan about his interest in member locations. I didn't get an answer. My guess is it may have something to do with security. Bottom line is it's his forum and his rules. Apparently, though I thought I was doing the right thing, I wasn't.

They wanted city and state when I was trying to re-register my username password. But I couldn't because somebody (me) already used them, but could not use them any more to log in.

I try not to get grumpy about it because none of the people running these groups for us are getting rich off it. This is getting me dangerously close to my rant about corporate CEO pay vs people who do useful things for other people, or the related riff on teachers and journalists being the most important people, but wait, why aren't they paid more? Let's just say that I try not to get short-tempered with people who aren't getting paid to deal with jerks (or for people who are, for that matter; a stint working behind a counter taught me lots about how not to get what you are demanding).

It's city and state, or city and country, entered in your profile. There were too many members whining about not knowing where folks are located.

I'd think a state would be close enough, at least to get a ballpark idea for shipping costs, if not an exact figure, I'd assume that's why people cared.

I had my zip on there. Not good enough.

I had my address and zip there and it wasn't good enough. Two emails for re-instatement haven't worked, either. I reckon my ARF days are done.
