Re: 60? stereo theater
The remote circle is a light sensor for the automatic brightness. The amplifier may be 9300 series, the tuner looks like a 1962

Re: 60? stereo theater
1961-'62 model 2MR419. It should have a 93 series Amp, 15" woofers and horns. It has remote control. The little square square in the corner of the screen is the remote channel indicator. I think that model has a factory Multiplex adapter.

Re: 60? stereo theater
They made it in four models, four styles. The 400 series Stereo Theaters were top of the line. the 415 was an Oriental style. The 416 and 419 were the style you said you didn't care for. The 417 and the 418 were the same cabinet, modern, but the 418 had remote control. The 417 and 418 had 12" speakers for some reason. My guess is that the TV tuner prohibited using the larger speakers. No matter, it still sounds fantastic. For $30 somebody needs to make a trip to Vegas. The ad says "The TV part is broken, so it doesn't work". I don't know what could be broken, other than the picture tube being necked. That model uses a 27ZP4 picture tube. I think a member on this forum has one, so that would not be an issue. The cabinet looks like it would clean up nicely. I hope somebody gives it a good home.

Re: 60? stereo theater
I'd assume that they meant the TV doesn't work, which would be typical, not broken in a physical sense. Not a fan of this style either, and I'd only want a ST with color myself. wouldn't these have also come in an EA cabinet? it was one of the most popular decors at the time.

Re: 60? stereo theater
I personally like that style. There is a member of this forum that has one. I see now the black spots on the face of the picture tube. I'll bet the picture tube has been necked. They are not very robust on the end, in fact, pretty delicate. The cup that is over the end of the tube is not very robust, either. The one on mine is partially melted. I'd save it if I had room. It's not that far from me. I don't believe Magnavox was in to Early American styling all that heavy in the tube days. Maybe later on in the Astro-Sonic days, not that familiar with those. Magnavox used terms like "Provincinal", "Traditional", "Moderne". Maybe some of their cabinets were Early American, just not called that? Magnavox designed their cabinetry for homes like you see on Perry Mason. Twelve foot high ceilings, heavy draperies, with wool carpets and a butler.

Re: 60? stereo theater
In my Magnavox brochure files I found the one listed in the link. It was model 1-SC422, French Provencial. The only other model listed was 1-SC420 and it was called English Traditional. These two were TOTL. Several levels below these TOTL models they did offer two Early American. One was a 1-MV386 called American Traditional selling at $525.00 and the other was 1-MV179 and it was called Country Colonial selling at $419.50. I wish I could get my brochures to link over or attach but no matter what I try it won't work.

Re: 60? stereo theater
Greg, they are PDF. I have tried everything I can think of, but they will not work. Copy and paste is a big NO. Trying them as an attachment is a big NO. And everything in between is a big NO. I should try emailing one to you, Greg, and see if it works that way. Or I could email it to myself. Hmm...
Roger, I will check and see what I have but I do not remember going that far into the future. I just checked before I submitted this post and I go to 1971 and then it skips to 1977. What exactly are you looking for? It looks like the 3900 series was TOTL, followed by the 3800 series and then the 3700 series, and it just goes down in series from there.

Re: 60? stereo theater
The forum software won't let us download pdf files to the forums. They stopped that with version 3.3 of the software. ARF allows pdf files, but is uses an older version. Progress, huh?

Thank you, Greg, if I knew that I had forgotten. Sometimes progress is not a good thing and for us oldsters leaving things alone is always a better choice. And yes, I know change makes the mind think but for me I have enough to think about.

Bill: I'm pretty sure mine is a 1972 the receiver chassis is called a R231. This came in different consoles, not sure about the model #s of those, but I was guessing 37xx something. I don't think the R321 chassis was TOL but again not sure. I think the 231 was rated at 50w/ch so probably a mid model? I'd love to find a copy of the 1972 brochure.

Re: 60? stereo theater
Roger, is the model tag you showed on your post yours? If so, that is a 50wpc Magnavox, midlevel unit, in a Spanish style cabinet and has 10" woofers and horns. Does that help?

Re: 60? stereo theater
Bill I just have the amp/receiver, no cabinet, speakers, rp, etc. My uncle had it sitting naked with no faceplate on his workbench hooked up with alligator clips (you can see them in the pic!) to speakers hanging from the floor joists over his basement workbench. I have no idea what happened to the rest of it or where he got it from. But it sounded really good, the FM sound was excellent, and when he died I searched for it and finally found it in a box in his basement (he'd since moved).
Pic: this is all I have of it. IMO It clearly was an excellent product, evidently Magnavox had really nailed SS console receivers by this time, I don't know much about their earlier SS models, but the tube ones were great instruments for sure and this one continues in that tradition, I'm really looking forward to putting it back into service.

Re: 60? stereo theater
Sadly, the 1971 brochure does not show any photos of the controls for any of the listed stereos. Lots of cabinet photos but nothing of the controls. Like I mentioned before, your model 3763 was a mid-level according to the 1971 brochure. Having the pushbuttons makes me think it might have been more deluxe as most higher-level models had push buttons. Sorry I do not have any brochures between 1971 and 1977. Hopefully one of these days I will be able to fill in the blanks.

Ya I need to find the '72 brochure! You'd think that there must be some kind of data base somewhere with digitized copies of brochures for a company as big and as well known as Maganvox!

Re: 60? stereo theater
Thanks Dave! No idea where Uncle Don got the ones in the pic, definitely not original.
