This Morse monstrosity at 8' long and a 4 figure price tag! There is a photo in the link with better lighting, but it doesn't help.

I'm not familiar with Morse. Was it something special?

Whoa! Now THAT is an aircraft carrier! Better have a big room for that one!
Looks like a thousand Benzene rings on the front of it.

Velour anyone?
When you really want a Magnavox, but want to be with your '88 Olds Cutlass Supreme's interior more often.....

I'm not even sure if this is actual console....I found the image on the interwebs and couldn't visit additional pictures without creating a login membership.
If this is a console....nothing says "cozy" in the family room like wrought iron fencing.

Bill,

I have seen a few Morse console photos elsewhere but more posts requesting info on Morse Electrophonic speakers. This was the largest size(and price) of any of their consoles I've come across on the web. Posts elsewhere would suggest they were lower end.

Mark,

Putting the name Morse with Electrophonic no rings a bell. Electrophonic was definitely on the lower end of the quality spectrum. I remember when I was a kid working for the Gamble Store, Electrophonic was a low-end brand we sold. The worked, didn't sound too bad but the quality of workmanship was not the best. But then again, the price point reflected the quality.

Definitely bargain basement quality. Maybe this will help:

Another that was heavily beaten with the Ugly Stick!

As an antidote here's a nice clean one that showed up on the same day!

Hydrolastic wrote: Fri Dec 03, 2021 1:54 am I only put this up because my grandparents had one and it was the strangest electromechanical device ever. i remember my grandmother getting on the floor to use it and she never ever was on the floor. It hung out for a couple of years in the small subdivision ranch style house with a gold sculpted carpet and a hanging partition wall. We had many great holidays there. Even though it looks gaudy now, at the time it was fine. In the driveway at the time was his 73 plymouth satellite (huge wedge shaped car) and her 70 Chevy nova 4 door.
My parents bought a Bradford (W. T. Grant) stereo in that configuration. I never could figure a unit that one would have to get on the floor to use. When I got into Antique radios, that old Philco catchphrase, "No stoop No squat, No squint!" reminded me of such units.

The only element of bad taste that's missing is some lurid red velour, in place of the orange. Imagine what it looks like with those lighted panels flashing colored lights. Maybe it would distract you from what is likely crummy sound.

That monstrosity surely MUST be a homebrew rig of some kind. Looks like it uses a BSR changer. The other components look cheap and badly oriented. The "A-track" is right up against the receiver. It appears to me like somebody took a factory gawdy rig and turned it into a gawdy monstrosity. I think it qualifies for my "Firewood with Speakers" award........ ;)

This unit looked familiar. Turns out they were available with red velour! Might have been a local Chicago venture for someone.

the scary part is , back in the day someone thought these looked wonderful enough to buy them...the plastikon cabinets were made too over the top IMO... embellished grilles and doo dads moulded in everywhere , I have 2 magnavox's with plasiton cabinets ... one from 64 and a late 70's model...it does reduce the weight of them though...
