That is a nice Stereo Theater. Probably a 1962 model. Thanks for sharing that video, Elton.

A caveat I might offer, if I may. One must be careful powering up a TV chassis on a Variac without disabling/pulling the horizonatal output tube. At lower voltages, the horizontal oscillator may not run, possibly red-plating the HOT. And that can be hard on the flyback transformer.

Agreed ... the guy didn't seem to concerned about that did he?... I would at least use a dimbulb setup...

Shango measures cathode current and uses a Kill-A-Watt on the input voltage, along with a dim bulb of varying wattages. Many of us aren't as brave around high voltage as Shango, so we might get by disabling the horizonatal output tube, then powering up on a dim bulb and/or Kill-A-Watt. That will let us check the power supply, then we can fire up the high voltage. The guy who made this video comes across lots of interesting stuff.

I knew from Shang066's early youtube videos, he was in the servicing business from a young age like me - but he stuck with it and got good at it unlike myself, now specializing in phonographs, domestic tube and transistor consumer electronics. Shang066 knows exactly how to quickly diagnose issues. I learn from every video and he talks and tri-oscillates all through it exactly like a friend of mine who would ex-terpolate and quadrangulate technical issues during the VCR craze 25-30 years ago. Shango has way more patience than I would for imported electronics as well, hats off to that!

All the "newer" test equipment is reminiscent of Norm Abrams' extensive specialized tools on Yankee workshop. would not be surprised if he selected those pieces while employed as a "Journeyman" then given them later in lieu of wages. I ended up with my first employer's Oscilloscope, and RCA WO-91b. Good stuff is rarely bought new by Heath-EICO kit builders on a budget OOPS! I resemble that.

Wonder what Shango does for a living? He is an amazingly talented guy, although a bit on the accentric side. I wish I knew as much as you have forgotten about TV's, though, Dave.
