Re: Finally, they are working on the shop
I don't know what is next. The painter has been mentioned. The roofers want to get done. They can't get inside until Monday. There is trim and the electrical to finish.

Cool floor! Finding a dropped screw might be a challenge though lol.
Home Despot's lumber can be as good as anyone's IF you sort though it. No lumber is as good as it used to be because of the way it's grown now and the all of good close grained stuff is long gone. It mostly comes from the same big mills: Weyerhauser, Georgia-Pacific, Sierra-Pacific, Irving, many of them in Canada, at least around here. There's different grades of stuff like studs, but I've found it's easier to use the better grade for framing, you can get away with the cheaper grade if selected carefully. Then again I'm old school, I hand drove every 16 and 20d nail in my camp, no air guns were used except for interior trim, where it's neater.
One area where there IS a difference is stuff like faucets and plumbing fixtures, the quality at HD and Lowe's is inferior to the grades sold at plumbing supply houses like F.W. Webb, they're sort of like a Graybar electrical supply, but for plumbing.

The floor is done. It was too dark when I got home this evening to take pictures. I'm going to reserve judgment until I drag heavy console cabinets across that floor without damage. It does look nice.

Re: Finally, they are working on the shop
The system we used is Granite Garage Floors. The material was made in Pennsylvania. This is the outfit that installed it. Very fair to work with, prompt, they called and even came out to see how the job looked finished to make sure we were happy with it. Can't get better than that this day and age.

Re: Finally, they are working on the shop
The painters are here this morning. They will spray on two coats of Killz, then two coats of paint, three colors like the house, Behr Premium Plus exterior semi-glaoss paint. Medium gray for the main body, lighter gray for the pop-outs, darker gray for the facia and the French doors. Pictures coming up.

Are you going to have a party when the last sub leaves? Champagne and all that?

No, no party, I'm afraid. I hope to enjoy going thru all the boxes, finding what I forgot I had. And hoping I still have what I thought I still had.

At 28 pages and counting of non-console non-audio, non electronics discussion, maybe this thread should also be on the new "Toys" area? or... nmaybe an area called "Shop Talk"?

Re: Finally, they are working on the shop
Okay then. Back to our discussion of progress on the shop building.
Painters were here on Thursday and got it painted ready for the roofing guys to do their thing, allegedly, on Monday next. Two coats of Kilz primer, two coats of three colors of gray, all carefully HOA approved.

Looking good, and progress is being made. Now we just keep our fingers crossed the roofers show up on Monday.

Good progress. What's the purpose of the "eyebrows"?

Re: Finally, they are working on the shop
The front of the house has pop-outs on it. There is only one front window to the street. With the two windows on the front of the shop, it looks like eyebrows. HOA requirements, it has to be done like on the house. The lower pop-outs aren't exactly like the house, due to the smaller dimensions. We suggested flat pop-outs over the shop windows, no dice for the HOA. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. The shop looks like it's smiling. I hope it will be a happy place to work and to store my toys. Roofers are scheduled for Monday. They are finally going to haul off the construction debris. The wife saw a scorpion in that mess, so the project manager got his tail feathers scorched with her phone call.
