How about this?
Our first poll on the old Classis Hifi Care forum. It has been suggested we start a board titled "Our Other Toys" to discuss cars, fans, vacuum cleaners, Mixmasters, appliances great and small, boats, firearms, phones and other toys we may possess. Although the theme of the forum is home entertainment equipment, it seems we get off into other toy topics as well. This would be a way to highlight them. This would not be for "finds" or something you see on the Internet, but just so we could share the other toys we as members of the forum have ourselves. What say ye?

I vote yes.
Because I note that at times the orignal topic can disappear
into all the other tangent replies.
For folks searching a hi-fi topic title, it may
discourage them to see unrelated posts.
At least, that is my personal experience.

Re: How about this?
This group has had a tradition, if you will, of getting off the topic. This was prevalent in the Vintage days. I haven't discouraged it. It's more important to me that we have a place we feel free to talk about what is on our mind at the time, a place everybody can feel comfortable. In the interest of maintaining that atmosphere, but also trying to prevent confusion by those not so familiar with us, starting a board about other toys might achieve that goal.
Ken, I have no idea why you only see one vote. I'll look into it.
Edit: I just voted, and my vote was registered, Make sure you hit the "vote" button, not just the submit button on your post. Once you have voted, the "vote" icon will disappear. I have it set so members can only vote once, can't change their vote.

Done. Please use the new board to comment and share about your other toys instead of injecting on a topic and getting so far off topic. It's toward the bottom of the forum under Television Chassis. Enjoy!!

The deed was done before I could vote, but mine would have been "yea" anyway. I'm probably guiltier than most about wandering off-topic. One thought leads to another.
There's a good comic strip in the newspaper, Frank & Ernest. A memorable one went like this... "Ernie is lost in thought. It's unfamiliar territory for him."

I'm the biggest duck in the puddle when it comes to derailing a topic. I tend to have fun and forget my manners and my responsibility to set a good example.....

Chris we appreciate your vote. Even though "the deed" was done, we appreciate that you consider us to be on the right track.

One of my theories is that when somebody assumes the responsibilities for an undertaking that lets the rest of us have fun, we can't be too critical. The moderators of this forum are essential for the rest of us to wander on and off topic.electra225 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 2:05 am I'm the biggest duck in the puddle when it comes to derailing a topic. For quite a few years I was asked to give a talk to the new trainees for crewing on our local sailing schooner replica. On any crew there's always some grousing about the captain. It's normal in any organization. But the point I made was that while each of us as crew members had some small responsibility, the captain was responsible for the safety of the vessel and the whole crew, and it was a huge responsibility. So go ahead and gripe and vent about how you could do it better, but at some point you have to just shut up, follow orders, and do your job.

Re: How about this?
We are fortunate to have lots of talent on our small forum. Members with many years of electronic experience who are willing to share that talent. We need to be mindful and respectful of their efforts to share and not convolute their contribution by derailing the topic. We have none of the "deportment" issues other forums have. We don't have members attacking other members for what they post. We have members who are more sensitive to having their topics derailed after they have put considerable time and effort into sharing with the forum. Let's just keep in mind to treat the other guy like you want to be treated and it will be fine. I want us to have fun, that's the number one goal of this forum. Okay, we have fun based on our mutual respect for console stereos and that, but we also discuss lots of other hobby-type topics as well. We want our forum to be one that will attract new members.
Several of us have other interests/hobbies/toys besides home entertainment electronics. I believe it's natural and desirable to want to share those with the forum. Now there is a board specifically for that. Those who have no interest in "our other toys" don't have to log onto that board. Those who visit the forum for console stereo discussion won't have to dig thru conversations about our other toys to find that information.

I see the "TOYS" forum is open only if you're logged on. My phone doesn't keep me logged on so I have to remember to do that from now on...

Re: How about this?
At one point I could have joined in the "Cars" threads, but have since sold my DeLorean. I was happy to sell because I put about 2000 miles on the car in the past twenty years and lack of use was really starting to show up problems. However, I always enjoy reading about others on here talking about their rides, appliances, or whatever. It's all good!

I like old cars as much as anyone, and also have vintage small kitchen appliances as daily drivers, and a seperate section to talk about these things may be advantageous to all.

Adding a "Toys" board appears to be a feature of our forum whose time has come. I hope we can all enjoy it. Ken, we would love to share stories about your appliances, and pictures!
