So what's the "sauce" that gets the volatile stuff under control?

I have read that one way to remove paint from wood grain is to apply a coat of shellac and then when it has hardened, apply paint remover. Supposedly it will pull the paint with it. I have never actually tried this, but I have an oak file cabinet next to my back door that had been painted over a failed clear finish, so some of the grain has paint in it after I stripped it years ago. I always think when I pass, "One day I'll try the shellac trick."

Go to a paint store. One that specializes in auto paint is best, but a home paint store should be able to help you. Not a Home Depot or a Lowe's, but a REAL paint store, like a Sherwin-Williams store, something like that. I used to buy it in three "flavors" if you will. Three levels of flash delay. One would slow it maybe 20%, one maybe 40%, the best maybe 60%. The warmer the weather was, the slower I wanted it to evaporate or flash. If you get the flash too slow, it will soak the wood and will put stain, filler and toner in more danger. So you have to experiment a tad to get the right product. As I recall, you could buy it in quart containers, which would treat several gallons of lacquer thinner. This stuff really won't slow the evaporation of acetone down, but the acetone sort of "rides" on the lacquer thinner, so when the lacquer thinner dries slower, so does the acetone. IIRC, the stuff is called flash controller or something like that. They more commonly use it in auto refinishing to prevent the paint from drying too fast and orange peeling.
Life can be tough. It can be even tougher if you're stupid.....

located in Detroit area is this a good price?
It looks like an SHC-8 (out of phase stereo). I got mine for $115 11 years ago. You could wait a little longer and see if it drops more, or make an offer. The scratches might be fairly easy to touch up.

Nope, I was wrong. Looked at the tone arm again and it doesn't have the triangular "Stereo" lift tab. Just ignore...
