WTB RCA RP-198 changer spindle
Hello all,
I received an RCA 6HF5 consolette last week,
and the shipping folks did not heed my advice.
No internal padding was placed, and the changer
was ripped out of the plinth hard enough to break,
yes break, the spindle.
Other cabinet damage can be glued back.
An RP-205, 211, 212, 215, or 216
spindle is the same as the RP-198/197.
The V of Music has none of these.
Good news is I have an extra RP205 changer that
I can sub if necessary.

Sorry you had this issue, Mr. Mogul. Don't you just hate it when you do all the work, then somebody else messes it up by being lazy? You tried my suggestion, Gary at V-M. I sure don't have one or it would be yours. Good luck.

There's a spindle on eBay right now for $27.00
It's out of an SHF-9 which uses the RP-205 changer.

Thanks for looking Gary.back-2-mono wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 5:36 pm There's a spindle on eBay right now for $27.00

I, like many here, see the e-pay prices as
some seller's exurberance at exhorbitance.
I do have a spare RP-205 all ready for the RCA 6HF5,
when I finish with orthopedic and neuro surgeries
on her.
I'll keep the RP198 for parts.
I took most of the cabinet apart today, and removed
the amp, too.
Need to tack down opened wood joints and glue
down veneer from the horror voyage she had.
No internal packing on the record changer, and
it busted loose like a wild bronco.

It's sad that a seller does not care enough to pack thing properly.

Re: WTB RCA RP-198 changer spindle
Bill, the external packing was great.
The box outwardly showed no damage at all.
It's crucial for folks to pack that bubble wrap inside on top
of any record changer to keep it from wrenching
free when that box is inevitably turned upside down,
or dropped upside-down.
And this RCA RP-198 did not have any of the plinth
retainer lugs to keep it somewhat attached.
So, no protection there at all.

I guess they tried, but, apparently did not really understand the importance of through packing.

Can you send a photo of the spindle pieces?

Chris,
I looked again at the RP-198 and the base is rusting through,
along with other problems.
I have the RP-205 that I had already completed a month
ago. That's what I'll replace in the 6HF5.
