Magnavox R2R

Post: # 3646Post Hydrolastic »

Hello guy's, This looks early 60's to me but could be older. Could it have been in a console at one time? https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ele/d ... 52823.html

I have seen those in a Mag console, it looks very similar to my Sony-Superscope 250, I wonder who made them for Magnavox. I'd say late '60s, mine is 1969. 20 yrs ago I had a '62 Fisher President that had an Ampex in it, along with a Benjamin-Miracord TT.

I agree that it's similar to the Sony machines of the era but I thought somebody had identified that Mag-branded device as a Panasonic.

I was thinking Panasonic as well, but really don't know.

Your correct ... it is a Panasonic unit ... just google model # RS766US for their retail version... it only takes one belt for rewind ... the rest is run by idler wheels from the main capstan....

I searched far and wide for a R2R for my fisher regent window seat model.... tough to find a R2R that would fit in a space only 6 " high ... ended up stuffing a Sony 250A into it.... the reels clear the sides by mm's but at least the top closes.... 8-)

I'd guess the Panasonic/Maggie R to R is a 1 motor unit like the Sony, simple, the benefit being it's easier to restore than some of the rather complex solenoid-controlled 3 head 3 motor models.

this was the same unit I complained ran too fast playing a store bought recording or playing one from a DC speed controlled deck.... but once I replaced the motor cap all was well ... amazing how that cap can effect the speed ...
