Danny, that one is about 3 hours away as well. My college roommate was from Sturgis, it's a nice town. And, yes, I have to many already. There are a couple of things on my list of wants, but they don't show up often and usually run more money than I want to spend. Remember, I'm cheap!

I agree, much like the '65 Astros I posted with all those bad caps. I would say the speakers and Micromatic changer alone are worth the asking price, if only to restore a more worthy Astrosonic.

My guess would be 1963 or '64 by the small platter on the changer. Why do people let the cartridge rest on the platter? That cabinet is like one they used on a low-end tube model in 1962-'63. That cabinet is nice.

There was a guy back home who was the cheapest guy I ever knew. He owned half the county and had several rentals. He drove a new Ford or GMC pickup every year. He would come into the gas station I worked at and buy $1 worth of "raggler". He would get the day-old bread the local bakery was throwing out. He would get cracked eggs, since the hatchery would give those away. He didn't attend church, but he would go to their charities and get his clothes. He died in the house he was born in. It had the same paint on it when he died as it did when he was born as well. Not a bad guy, really. He was the grandfather of my best friend. He knew how to get two of those little Coke bottles out of the slot for a nickel at the Co-op elevator. If he offered you a Coke, you can bet he got the one he gave you for free.....

It's interesting how he was cheap with some things, yet, drove a new truck every year.

He always got a holdover from the last model year, after the new ones came out. Always a low-line model with a six and three on the tree. He drove it for a year and all he paid for was tags, insurance and gas. He figured that was cheaper than making repairs.

A good friend of mine who passed away this year and worked for the FBI when Hoover was in charge (stories he could tell...) bought a '59 Desoto Firefight sedan in 1960. Black with black, red and white interior, swivel seats, the twin antennae and a gas heater. The car was ordered by a local funeral home and was delayed so they got a different car. Remember rumors that Desoto was going to be discontinued were rampant by '59 and nobody wanted another Edsel...

The car finally got delivered and sat at the dealership and Jack got it for a great price. Think he traded a '53 Roadmaster to get it and was a Mopar fan all through the '60s and '70s until he had the '74 New Yorker St Regis coupe. 300 convertibles were his favorite... he had a '65 300 in blue with red bucket seats, the mag wheels and, what he said a manual transmission. Not sure chrysler did that but stories tend to get tainted.
