The price of gas went down...

Post: # 29501Post electra225 »

40 cents a gallon during the last two hours. :o  :D

When I was heading to the Cracker Barrel, gas was $4.99 at the gas station on the corner. Coming home, I saw it was $4.59. I thought I heard that oil was up again today. What gives? I'm not complaining, mind you......

It went from $499.9 here to $479.9 yesterday as well. Not as cheap as your price but better, they are practically giving it away.

GasBuddy is showing gas in the town nearest me at about $3.89. If you travel in either direction it's 4.08 or higher. Mostly higher. I think the reason we have lower prices is because a WaWa station just opened up and they're probably keeping their prices lower to bring in new customers.

We use a lot less gas than we used to so we usually go to Kroger once a month and use the discount price from grocery shopping. I'll take three five gallon jugs with me to fill them up. I use those for mowing and putting some back in the car.

Last week I went to a very small town in Virginia called Altavista. I found gas there for 3.59 while most other stations were at $4.39. It was an unmanned station but everything was working as it should.

My understanding is that the main driver of pump price is the cost when the tanker truck was filled. That has been yo-yoing. Your local station makes more money from sales of chips, snacks, sugary drinks, etc. than on gas.

I'm sure we will not see any reduction in gas prices until after Memorial Day. People made travel plans before the gas prices started to go up. Nobody is going to cancel holiday travel plans because of the price of gas and they know it!

Gas dropped here again today, it is all the way down to $4.69 from $4.99. It will either stay down over the holiday weekend or go up 40 cents today or tomorrow. Shall we spin the bottle and see what happens.   :(

I found out why gas went down 40 cents then right back up. There is a local gas station, convenience store that lowers the price on the third Thursday of the month. The other local stations follow suite lest they have no business during the "gas war". I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Tomorrow is the third Thursday of the month. I'll ride the golf cart down to the corner station to see if the price is lower again. ;)

Gas Buddy show the gas in the town near me at $4.09 to $4.19. I was told by another person that the new WaWa station still had gas for less than $4.00.

I tried to save on gas by driving my electric car, (a golf cart) to Discount Tire to get the tires inflated. It had been two or three years and one on the back was getting pretty soft. No problem with the tires, but on the way home I got stopped by a sheriff's deputy. He gave me the devil for riding on the sidewalk. I was told by a deputy in 2012 that I could ride on the sidewalks "until your heart's content" since our sidewalks are wide to accomodate such contraptions. They ride electric bikes and scooters on the sidewalk and they will run faster than a golf cart. The deputy who stopped me says I need to ride in the bike lanes on roads with speed limits 35 mph or less. And I have to have license and insurance. Probably cheaper to pay the fine. I won't ride to Discount again. I passed three or four deputies on my way there and nothing happened. I'll ride here in the neighborhood and won't have any problems. Several of us ride golf carts in this community, all on the sidewalk along main streets and on the street in the community.

The deputy was feeling his oats today, had to show some authority to prove he had some. :)

Riding a golf cart on main roads in the bike lane would be pure suicide. Plus, riding in the bike lane with a motorized "vehicle" is verbotten anyways. The deputy who said it was okay to ride on sidewalks also indicated it was safer than driving on main roads. There are several in the community who have motorized devices and ride all over. Gold carts, scooters, bikes. Plus, some ride "pedal" bikes on sidewalks, which is as bad as driving a golf cart on sidewalks. I yield to everything, let pedestrians and bikes pass. I'm not in a hurry, but I'm not gonna ride on roads with cars, license or no. I drove home in the bike lane, lest that deputy who stopped me was still around. Scary......

I need to be grateful to the deputy who stopped me, since he puts it all on the line to keep us safe. His demeanor was what gives police officers a bad rap. When they conduct themselves like he did, they deserve the bad rap.....

Getting snarky with some old fart on a golf cart that wasn't hurting anybody might have been a tad excessive..... ;)

My guess is that the matter of whether to hassle someone for riding a motorized device on sidewalks is one left to the discretion of the officer. It's one of those "surely we can find something else to worry about" type of violations...

The officer today was one I can put down as being opposed to such activity.... ;) ;)

At least you weren't driving to the liquor store to buy some alcohol the way George Jones did on his John Deere lawn mower. Or were you?

I always bum the neighbor's little air compressor to inflate my golf cart tires. He has not been feeling well lately, he's in his 80's, and it was a nice day. I thought I'd just drive the golf cart down to Discount Tire and let them inflate the tires. On the way home, I cut thru Home Depot parking lot and was almost to the grocery store when this cop "lit me up". I run down the sidewalk maybe 50 feet to get to the HD parking lot. He saw me, did a flip, then lit me up. I saw him flip, but I thought he was after a car. Nope, not the speeding Charger with the loud mufflers. He got the low-hanging fruit. The old guy on the golf cart.
