Motorola SK29, now mine!

Picked this classic up yesterday, nice young lady seller on FBM with honest photos.

It's phono - only, cabinet in bad shape, but I have plans for that! Here's a couple of screenshots from the listing, first the beauty shot, then the ugly one. The left speaker had fallen off, so it's propped up with books. The video she supplied at least showed it somewhat worked, but no more of that till it's cleaned and recapped, of course .

Here's the back removed, in my garage. Both side speaker wires were disconnected, so her video could only have been the bass center channel audio. Looks pretty much untouched except for some rat gnawings , but no nests or major poop deposits, fortunately. And, amp tubes appear original, haven't checked the preamp yet. Looking forward to hearing that 15" woofer in action!

And, here's my ultimate goal, appearance-wise, from an eBay listing of a resto that is outrageously listed for $2300! I love the frosted black treatment, it gives a lot of character to the otherwise bland appearance when closed up. BTW, the legs, hinges and pulls are real brass, not plated steel, so they should polish up beautifully!

I'll be tracking my restoration saga in the Motorola section.....

Nice MCM Motorola, you did good with this find. And, I am sure once done it will look just like the one in the Ebay ad. Interesting, I do not see a separate pair of tubes for the center channel. Or, the center channel is PP and the outside channels are single ended. I am sure as your restoration story continues we will find out.

Have fun, and please keep us informed.

Ditto from here! Nice find. The dirtier they are, the nicer they build out. I like the shading on the expensive cabinet you linked. You do amazing work, and I look forward to watching your progress..... ;) :D
