Eddie Fisher

Post: # 29337Post electra225 »

I have been playing the "pickup load" of CD's I bought at an auction in Missouri, probably ten years ago. I weeded out the ones I knew I wouldn't enjoy. The rest I put in my JVC 200-disc changer. I know, CD's are obsolete, but if you have them, why not enjoy them? I have three CD changers, connected thru a Radio Shack speaker control box, so I can use anything in the shop that is an amplifier to play them. BTW, I found out a couple of days ago that I own a Taylor Swift CD. It is in the box on its way to Goodwill......

I played a three-disc set of Eddie Fisher material, on RCA Legacy label. Eddie Fisher recorded for RCA back in the day. The only real gripe I have with this material is Hugo Winterhalter's orchestra. I guess I hadn't ever really listened to Eddie Fisher sing. I understand that his personal life may have been controversial, but his singing was top notch. I really believe he could hold his own with Perry Como. His voice is rangy, with no sliding on or off his notes. He liked country songs on this collection. "I'll Hold You In My Heart ('Til I Can Hold You In My Arms) which is an old Eddy Arnold song. "Anytime" that was written by Jenny Lou Carson and has been recorded by anyone with a recording contract at one point or another. "Why Don't You Love Me" which is a Hank Williams standard. There were several standards, "Stardust" was one of those. Some of the selections were obviously mono, the later ones stereo. RCA Legacy (Sony ?) had done a good job editing. I reckon I need to add Eddie Fisher to my list of "best male singers". Como, Eddie Fisher, Bobby Vinton, Jim Reeves, Ray Price and Ricky Van Shelton.
Life can be tough. It can be even tougher if you're stupid.....
