Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems....

Quite possibly the most annoying automotive feature ever invented, then foisted on the unsuspecting public. My little car has this feature. The warning of low tire pressure is displayed in the radio and on the speedometer. My car has an analog speedometer, along with a digital display. If the normal 38 psi tire pressure varies by a preset amount, either high or low, the monitor goes off. The English lady tells me first in the radio speakers. Then the digital display comes on. You can't get any information in the instrument cluster, nor can you change anything in the radio display with that monitor on. If the tire pressure varies radically from its perameters, it can affect engine performance. The car has run-flat tires. The English lady tells me to pull over immediately and check my tires. In Phoenix traffic? Is she daft? Pull over in the bike lane? Good way to get a ticket or to get your fool self killed! When the weather guessers tell us the temps are going to go down outside, I'd best stop by Discount Tire and have my tires checked. I get in line behind a dozen others with the same issue. Dumb idea, this. Safety is safety, but this goes too far.....

Just wait till the reciver goes bad. It effects use of remote key to lock unloc and same with alarm.
Suburu won't release software info so other shops can not replace it.

I'm told, and assume it's true, that the TPMS in my car is part of the BCM. The BCM and the ECM are the two main computers with "smaller" systems running off them. The system itself has never caused trouble, nor have the individual sensors on the wheels. My car is built by BMW, and the shop I use has all kinds of factory nonsense that they can refer to if need be. I hope that trend continues.....
