The first cruise-in of the season today

Post: # 27862Post electra225 »

Yessir, I actually got to exercise the old Buick a bit today. Yesterday, the wife and I drove the six miles east of here to the Circle K to buy gas $1.00 a gallon less than the Circle K on the corner, just down the street from the house. I can buy premium there for the same price as regular locally. Do you think there might be a tad bit of price gouging going on?.....

Today was the first day for the cruise-in in Apache Junction. A local car club sponsors it. They had a DJ, they had t-shirt vendors, a stand that sold fresh grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for $6, $8 if you got the "basket" whatever that was. One big boo-boo, though. No porta-potties. If you had to go, you had to go, if you get my drift. You had to drive to the gas station a mile down the road. I trust this is an oversight or a conflict of some kind and not a permanent feature. No potties, no Greg, I can tell them that. I wasn't the only Buick there, shock, shock. There was a Grand National there as well. I got there about noon and there was maybe two dozen cars there. When I left an hour and a half later to find the gas station (!) there were 153 cars. A good mix of nice cars, new cars and pure-dee junk. Many of the participants were snowbirds. Lots of Canadian license plates, Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois. I'll bet there will be enough Midwesterners there that I can scare up a euchre game one of these days. No pictures today, really didn't intend to stay very long. This was an exploratory mission. Maybe in the next couple of Fridays, we can go, stay longer and get some pictures to share. It was 50 miles more or less exactly from the storage facility to the cruise-in and back.

The best car there was an almost dead stock 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS with a 327 and a four speed. A REAL 300 horse 327 with an AFB and double-hump heads, no headers. All that was not stock was a dual master cylinder conversion and hang-on air. Still had the metal, shrouded, clutch fan. And 14" white wall tires and the real SS hubcaps.

Sounds like fun, and I hope you continue to go back and can get a few photos to share. We have 7-8 months before we will see any classic vehicles back on the road. :(

Old cars were literally by the dozens on the roads in AJ this afternoon. Lots of old cars coming out of storage for the season.
