Period replacement for Seeburg Model S
Period replacement for Seeburg Model S
When I restored my 1948 Olympic console a few years ago, I went to great lengths and design tweaks to get the changer to work with a new Pfanstiehl P-51-3 cartridge, replacing the old Astatic plow. It now tracks at about 8 grams, and actually trips in the runout groove! It was in great condition, that's the original platter flocking, but of course, it only plays 78s.
I've finally convinced myself that the best way to sell this is to swap the changer to a three-speed version that is hopefully somewhat close to the post-war period.
Anybody have a changer they would be willing to part with?

Have you considered using a BSR or VM stereo changer in place of the older mono changers? Lots easier to find and to find parts for and would be easier on records, particularly stereo records.

From the appearance standpoint, the old Garrard RC-80 and RC-88 changers are 3-speed, and most were brown with velvet turntable covers. They ought to be readily available.

Garrard changers can be a challenge to get running right. If you have considerable skills working with changers you might get along okay. Me, personally, I'd find a VM or something easier to service.

I have a V-M 950 out of a 1953-4 Columbia that
would look pretty good.
If interested, shoot me a PM w/contact info.

I've about decided that I'll just try to unload my Olympic as a 78-only, with Bluetooth adapter. FM/AM work fine. The amp on this thing is not really HI-FI, I think--it lacks any negative feedback circuitry, which probably explains the mild distortion I hear. Decent bass, at least! If no takers, I'll probably donate to a local thrift shop. It's a pretty cabinet, too. Thanks for the inputs, y'all, especially Mr Mogul!
