Before I buy.... I need a 2nd garage door transmitter. Not because either truck lives in the garage, mind you, but because the bike and travel tool box live there. I unlock the Ranger to get at the transmitter to open the door. Now with 2 trucks it would be nice to have a 2nd transmitter.
There are universal remotes that will activate a post-1993 Craftsman device like mine, which is apparently 390 mHz. Looks like you hold the transmitter up against the opener mechanism near the green learn light and push a button the device is synced.
But the instructions confuse me slightly. Does the opener mechanism sync to the transmitter, or does the transmitter sync to the opener? If it's the latter, fine. If it's the former, then the old transmitter would n longer be synced and I'd be back to one device.
Advice?

Chris, do you know who made your opener for Craftsman? And to answer your question, most openers will sync to multiply remote devices without killing each other. Sometimes the universal remotes will sync with older openers and sometimes they won't. A lot depends on what manufacture made the opener. Does your new truck have built in opener buttons? If so you can try and sync one of those to your opener. Also, have you thought about a touch pad that mounts outside of your garage that with a code will allow you to enter your garage? You could potentially have three remotes to access your garage if your new truck has the push buttons.

While truck has many gadgets, an opener doesn't seem to be among them. That's for the high end folks (OK, the new truck cost more than my first house, but it's still a low-end Tacoma). Just judging from internet info, the opener seems to be "Chamberlain?Craftsman." The online transmitters are available for less than ten bucks, so maybe I'll try one of it won't displace my original.

Some model vehicles have the built in opener and some don't. For 10 bucks you can't go wrong. I would still consider the touch control that mounts outside somewhere on your garage. Once you have it, you will wonder why you waited so long to install one. As long as you don't touch the old opener you should be good mating up the new one. Chamberlains are excellent openers but be sure the ready the instructions several times. Some of them have colors you need to identify with your opener before pushing the magic button.

Yeah, I got the Craftsman instructions out last night. The guy who sold me the house kindly left a folder of equipment instructions and even paint-color mixing codes for me. It talk about the green light.
