Where to find these fittings ?

Hello all,

These brass fittings are used commonly in vintage hi-fi
amplifiers to secure the small amplifiers to their
cabinets.

They fit over the threaded shafts of potentiometers,
such as Volume and Tone control pots.

What would these named, and where would they
be available for purchase ?

Dimensions (as close as I could estimate with a ruler) :

Inner threaded diameter: 5/16 inch.

Depth: 1/4 inch

Hexagon diameter: 1/2 inch.

That is some kind of a collared nut. You might consider making one using a plastic sleeve and a nut from a ceiling fan. Our local ACE hardware has a huge parts cabinet with every kind of fastener known to man. I would visit a good hardware store with the collared nut, then find a plastic sleeve and a nut that will get you in business. I wouldn't have any idea where one could buy an original nut like that.

Greg, I'm trying to remember if electrical hardware like control nuts are standard thread or some electrical variant.

The are the "electrical variant". I believe they have 32 thread pitch, IIRC. All I know is that, in my experience, the nuts for ceiling fan switches have worked on radio control shafts, volume, tone and that. May not be the case in all situations, so your results may vary.

I had already found the original source of the product that Doug posted,
and the collar nuts' dimensions are much larger and cannot be used.

Bill, you got me thinking of this idea.

Are there threaded sleeves that are threaded
externally and internally ?

That theoretical sleeve would screw onto the
shaft of the potentiometer, with the external
threading available to screw a nut onto
and secure it all.

I did a search and there are dual threaded
inserts.
I will need to see what thread types are available,
and it they come in short lenghts.

U could use small spanner wrench to tighten
I imagine your thread is finer that 18tpi.
You need to take a nut to a hardware supply measure pitch.
5/16comes in 24 tpi. I believe ther are other sizes
Once have correct size search for screw mount nuts in correct size

There are dual threaded brass plumbing parts but I am not sure if they would be small enough. Greg's suggestion of your local Ace Hardware and searching thru their parts cabinets may have what you want. I know my local Ace has been very resourceful when get stumped with a project.
