Capehart 35P7
Capehart 35P7
Here are some pictures of my Capehart 35P7, I found her at a garage sale 33 years ago, and the guy who was running this for his mother, because she was going to a care home was trying to sell it, at that time I had no money to afford the purchase, but he said if it was still here after the weekend I could have it, otherwise it was going to the dump, needless to say, I returned the Sunday afternoon expecting it to be gone...The rest is History. I always new when I retired I would start a renovation to fix what was not operable, if anyone has information, manuals, schematics etc would be an amazing start for my continued journey with 35P7.

I have one that seems to be identical. I replaced the tube that appeared to be out, and the radio now works. I have to pull the turntable and see what is going on with that next.

That is a very nicely designed console set.
Capehart didn't sell junk.

Re: Capehart 35P7
Looking at the tube chart--looks like a separate preamp for a magnetic cartridge, and then three 6V6 tubes. ??? Is one of them a single-ended driver for a tweeter, with the other 2 in P-P for the woofer? I seem to recall that Capehart made the changer, too. Using an automotive metaphor, it is a Packard of consoles--small company, high quality.

Re: Capehart 35P7
The tube chart that was posted in blurry to my eyes, but I'm betting that one of the octal tubes being called 6V6's is actually a rectifier, probably a 5Y3GT. The miniature tubes at the top are in the front end, the two metal tubes are in the IF strip and the two on the right edge of the chassis are audio amplifiers/phase inverters. Probably has P-P 6V6GT audio output.

I looked again. You are right. Two 6V6 and 5Y3. The chassis is very similar to my 1951 Magnavox in layout and tube complement.electra225 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 1:19 am The tube chart that was posted in blurry to my eyes, but I'm betting that one of the octal tubes being called 6V6's is actually a rectifier, probably a 5Y3GT.

The radio/amp chassis is P7.

P-7 chassis here at Rider's 1949 :

I believe the record changer is a P72 or similar.
With the pre-amp, I would guess there is a G.E. Variable Reluctance
magnetic cartridge in it.
I have a 1954 Capehart similar to the 35P7, with a V-M 950
changer and the G.E. V-R cartridge.
Sounds fantastic !

Re: Capehart 35P7
For my 78rpm Rek-O-Kut turntable, I use a GE VRII cartridge.
It's period collect for those disks, and none of the Hi-Fi carts I use on LP's don't sound anywhere as good as the old GE, even with spherical 78 styli.
