Not a bad looking Early American pair. It has a VM changer so that is good. I wonder who actually made this pair.

According to Mr. Bing, Marquette stereos were made by Marantz, McIntosh, and Bozak at various times. Those are some pretty big names in electronics. That stereo might be right up there with the best of them. What model VM changer would that be? That stereo might be a good snag..... ;) ;)

From Gary's site, it appears to be 1962-63 changer:

The cabinets on this unit look to be about the same size and build of the Bozak 302A speakers I had years ago. Another one of those times when I wish..... If they are Bozak built speakers that would definitely be a unit to pick up.

Nothing about that unit looks high-end. There's likely a difference between "Marque" and "Marquette." (The latter is the largest town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and the site of the courthouse where they filmed "Anatomy of a Murder," a classic film based on a classic book by "Robert Traver," the pen name of John Voelker.)

Voelker was a Michigan Supreme Court justice for about 3 years, a very good one, but he quit because he missed his Upper Peninsula. How many elected officials leave their posts voluntarily? He was a good writer. If you want to read an opinion of a very agitated judge, read this one:

https://law.justia.com/cases/michigan/s ... 562-0.html

Scroll down to the heading "Voelker, J." and read an extended statement of outrage over a police raid on a nudist camp. My favorite quotation from a legal opinion is this: "Private fanaticism or even bad taste is not yet a ground for police interference. If eccentricity were a crime, then all of us were felons." What's interesting is that Voelker's opinion was first a dissent--a minority view. But he was so passionate about basic liberties that he brought around a couple more justices and it became the majority opinion.

If you look closely at the second picture and the fourth picture in the posted link, you can plainly see "Marquette" on the tuner bezel. Marquette was also the name of the Buick companion car brand, built in 1930 only. It used a side-valve six-cylinder engine, unlike the valve-in-head engines Buick was famous for. "Marque" may have been a model or such designation, rather than the actual brand name. I found other Marquette brand phonos on the Internet. IF you go by the look of the cabinet, how about Fisher? Many of their cabinets look like a dresser. I'll bet the electronics of that stereo are high quality.

Somebody got a deal! What would you bet that it gets dismantled for the parts?

It will probably depend on what's under the hood. Hopefully a collector ended up with it.
