Truetone TOTL?

Post: # 23747Post stbasil »

Seller wants too much, but this appears to be a decent unit, cabinet looks like it's in great shape!

It's solid state, maybe 1966? Any thoughts on whether it's silicon or germanium, or hybrid? Based on other comments in this forum, it's maybe made by Wells-Gardner? The parts list says 12" woofers with a horn and a midrange:

Seller is not exactly in my backyard, unfortunately.

Yes you nailed the year: 1966.

Power supply looks pretty nice.

Record changer Sams says is an Ensign.

The main thing wrong with that deal is the decimal point is in the wrong spot. The cabinet is nice. Per conversations on here in the past, one would need to not pay too much for that console, pending troubleshooting to make sure it is not full of bad germanium transistors. I'd have to see more markings on the chassis to be sure, but Well-Gardner would be a possible manufacturer of this console.

That is a good-looking cabinet and with a separate amp it was not a cheap unit. 12" woofer, and horns makes it higher end too. Price is a bit much. Greg is right, change the decimal point. The changer looks VM to me.

The price would make more sense if it weren't non-working. The cabinet is immaculate and handsome and the amp is P-P output.

I feel kind of guilty asking, Hi-Fi-Mogul, but for unrelated academic purposes I would love a higher resolution scan of the schematics for that Germanium amplifier. I'm in the middle of a study dive into these amplifiers, and this stand-alone amplifier design is very interesting. I'm working on a similar style all PNP germanium Magnavox A531 chassis, and the frustrating thing about Mag are those dang internal part numbers for the transistors. This one is an interesting hybrid- small Si NPN transistors in the predriver, Germanium output transistors. It's nice to see the transistor numbers, but I would love to see it all if you are willing.

Ridiculous price given zero effort to provide any proof of life, but an interesting study.

Thank you either way, -Warren

Is nice looking , but not working and they still want a fortune for it? ...I think wells gardner made units for most brands... then there is colonial but I think they made most of the Sears silvertone units ... good luck with that price

Interesting, I have never heard of an Ensign changer. They must have done a direct copy of a VM in their design.

Wow- Thank you! I really appreciate it.

Now that I have checked out the download section I will be sure to contribute what schematics I have there. Looks easy to use! -W
