Ball bearing source

Post: # 23300Post TC Chris »

Does anybody have a recommended source for small loose ball bearings in a relatively small (< 50) order? The freewheel on my touring bike had its outer bearing race unscrew on Sunday--9 miles down the trail, of course--and all the little bearings but two escaped before I noticed. Our local bearing store closed up. I don't think Ace has little ones. Haven't checked auto parts places yet.

How about a bike repair shop?

That was my first stop, the place near my office as I headed home on the faithful commuter bike. They didn't have tiny bearings, just the ones for axles and such. I haven't looked at the online industrial suppliers yet, McM.-Carr and such.
